Kia unveiled a hatchback version of its K4 nameplate (sold as a sedan in some overseas markets) at the 2025 New York International Auto Show.
Although the Korean automaker had previewed the new body style last year, this is the first time it has shown it in full. A competitor to the Volkswagen Golf, the K4 hatchback is due to be launched in the most important markets in North America, the Middle East, and Asia by the end of 2025.
Engine Options and Specs in Kia K4
The brand-new K4 receives two powertrains: a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol (147hp, 179Nm) and a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol (190hp, 264Nm). While the NA mill comes mated to the brand's IVT unit, the more dynamic block receives an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Three models will be available: EX, GT-Line, and GT-Line Turbo. The GT-Line variants receive a sport suspension, which, the brand assures, enhances handling.
Kia K4 Hatchback interior and Features
The K4 hatchback's instrument panel resembles its sedan counterpart, with two 12.3-inch screens for entertainment and instruments, and a 5-inch HVAC screen. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay (on all) are also included.
Other options are a 360-degree camera system, a Harman Kardon audio system, heated and cooled front seats, a sunroof, over-the-air updates (OTA), connected car technology, and 29 ADAS features.
Kia K4 Hatchback exterior design
In the front, the hatchback is very similar to the sedan, with similarities such as the EV-9 inspired vertically stacked LED headlights and the T-shaped daytime running headlamps and a slim signature tiger nose grille.
Alterations are only evident in the profile. The vehicle is shorter by 279mm compared to the 4,710mm sedan. The rear spoiler "blends seamlessly into the rear, creating a clean, contemporary profile", according to Orth Hedrick, Kia North America executive director of product planning, when the vehicle was introduced.
More Information
But the alloy wheel design (16 to 18 inches probable) and tail-lights remain the same. Kia asserts that the hatchback boasts a 628-litre boot space, more than 52 percent more than the sedan version. This can be extended to 1,679 litres when the second-row seats are folded flat.
Conclusion
With the launch of the Kia K4 hatchback at the 2025 New York International Auto Show, Kia has taken a bold move into the crowded premium hatchback market, pitting itself against the likes of the Volkswagen Golf. With a range of economical petrol engines, a technology-packed interior, and a spacious, functional boot, the K4 hatchback combines performance, practicality, and contemporary style. As it gets ready to enter important markets around the world by the end of 2025, the K4 hatchback is a serious contender for customers seeking a sporty yet practical city car.
