The design updates and new features expected on the Volkswagen Taigun facelift are ahead of its official price reveal in India today.
It also details the powertrain options, gearbox changes and the competitive pricing landscape that Volkswagen will need to navigate carefully.
Volkswagen India is all set to announce official prices for the updated Taigun facelift today, and given everything we already know about the car, there is quite a bit to look forward to.
Production has already commenced at the company's Pune facility, and bookings are expected to open shortly after the price reveal. The facelift shares its platform and mechanicals with the Skoda Kushaq facelift, so buyers have a fairly clear picture of what to expect.
A Cleaner, More Confident Look Outside
The most immediate change on the new Taigun is the way it presents itself. Up front, new LED headlamps with a slightly curvier design make a strong first impression, complemented by an illuminated Volkswagen logo and a connected LED light bar that runs across the width of the bumper.
The revised front bumper now incorporates black inserts with chrome detailing, giving the SUV a more premium, purposeful feel that sits in line with Volkswagen's newer global offerings.
The side profile stays largely unchanged, though the facelift does introduce freshly designed 17-inch alloy wheels that add a welcome dose of freshness. At the rear, connected LED tail lamps with revised detailing and an illuminated VW logo round off the updated look rather neatly.
A Cabin That Finally Keeps Up
Inside, the Taigun facelift is expected to receive some meaningful upgrades. A 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and an updated 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, potentially with AI-based functionality, are among the headline additions.
A panoramic sunroof and a rear seat massage function, a feature borrowed from its Skoda sibling, would mark a genuine step forward in comfort over the outgoing model. Existing conveniences like wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ventilated front seats, wireless charging, automatic climate control and cruise control are all expected to carry over.
On the safety front, the Taigun is likely to retain its six airbags, electronic stability control, hill start assist, tyre pressure monitoring system, all-wheel disc brakes and a rear-view camera.
Same Engines, but a Welcome Gearbox Upgrade
The 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engines carry over unchanged. The smaller unit puts out 115 PS and 178 Nm of torque, while the larger 1.5-litre develops 150 PS and 250 Nm.
The key mechanical news is that the 1.0-litre engine is now expected to be paired with a new 8-speed automatic gearbox, replacing the older 6-speed unit. The 1.5-litre version continues with the 7-speed DSG.
Pricing and What It Means for the Competition
Positioned to Fight Hard Against a Crowded Field
The current Taigun is priced between Rs 10.58 lakh and Rs 19.19 lakh (ex-showroom), and the facelift is expected to be positioned between Rs 11 lakh and Rs 19 lakh.
With the arrival of feature-laden rivals like the Renault Duster, Volkswagen will need to price the Taigun shrewdly to maintain its loyal following while also attracting fresh buyers who might otherwise prioritise features over driving dynamics.
