Bentley confirms Torcal as its first fully electric model
Global unveiling scheduled for September 23, 2026
Bentley has finally put a name to its long-awaited electric future, and it is called the Torcal. The confirmation arrived on July 6, 2026, marking a significant moment for the Crewe based marque as it prepared to add a fourth model line alongside the Continental GT, Flying Spur and Bentayga. The car will take its bow at a global premiere on September 23, 2026, giving enthusiasts a firm date to circle on the calendar.
For a brand that has built its reputation on hand crafted luxury and thunderous W12 engines, the shift towards battery power represents a genuine turning point. The Torcal will not simply be an electrified variant sitting alongside a petrol counterpart either. Bentley has made clear that this will be an electric only nameplate, with no combustion or hybrid version planned to run in parallel.
Where The Name Comes From
Bentley has a long tradition of naming its cars after dramatic natural landscapes, and the Torcal continues that pattern rather nicely. The name is inspired by El Torcal de Antequera, a nature reserve in Spain known for its towering, wind sculpted limestone formations that look almost otherworldly.
There is a clever bit of wordplay tucked into the name as well. Torcal traces its roots back to the Latin word torquere, the very same origin that gives us the modern term torque.
For a car built around electric motors, where torque delivery is instant and often the headline feature, it feels like a fitting choice rather than a coincidental one.
Positioning And Expected Underpinnings
In terms of size, the Torcal is expected to sit below the Bentayga, which would make it the most compact model in Bentley's lineup, at least dimensionally. That said, buyers should not mistake compact proportions for a modest price tag or a scaled back experience, as Bentley rarely does anything by half measures.
Given that Bentley operates under the wider Volkswagen Group umbrella, industry watchers widely expect the Torcal to borrow heavily from the Porsche Cayenne Electric, which rides on the Group's PPE platform.
The Cayenne Electric itself runs a substantial 113kWh battery pack paired with a dual motor all wheel drive setup, delivering a claimed range beyond 640 kilometres on a single charge.
Should the Torcal indeed share this technical foundation, it would give Bentley a strong starting point in terms of range and performance. Even so, expect the brand's engineers to rework the powertrain tuning, suspension characteristics and cabin experience to ensure the Torcal feels distinctly Bentley rather than a badge engineered cousin of its Porsche sibling.
What Comes Next
With the name now confirmed and a premiere date locked in for September 23, further details on specifications, interior design and pricing are expected to trickle out over the coming months. Until then, the Torcal stands as a clear signal of intent from Bentley, one that suggests the brand is ready to prove that electric power and traditional luxury are not mutually exclusive.
