Tata Motors is about to launch one of the most iconic revivals - the Tata Sierra SUV. The latest avatar of the Sierra that was caught road-testing had something additional to offer with its interior element: a triple-screen dashboard setup, just like the Harrier EV!
One of the screens is a traditional instrument cluster, the eliminated second screen is an infotainment screen, and an exclusive third screen for the co-drivers - something that normally comes in higher-tier premiums.
A Tech-Savvy Cabin for a Modern Icon
The introduction of this new third screen on the passenger side is both innovative and bold. This feature will not only offer entertainment, video streaming, gaming and video conferencing, with an inbuilt camera and compatible apps, but also have an entirely new experience for the front passenger, compared to what has been trialled before. This feature adds to the distinctiveness of the Sierra and potentially places the Sierra ahead of other players in this segment.
While this type of layout is not new and has been seen in the higher-end SUV market, such as Mahindra's XUV.e9 and Kia's Syros, Tata is making this advanced feature more accessible to buyers with the Sierra, to reach a much more diverse audience of potential buyers and remain a high-tech feature.
Traits of the Harrier EV
Outside of this triple-screen setup, everything else in the interior is shared with the new Harrier EV. The shared things are the new four-spoke steering wheel (with a light-up Tata logo), auto-dimming IRVM, ambient lighting within the interior cabin, and nicely stashed sunglasses holders. The fact that you are using the same parts speaks to Tata's desire to have a coherent premium experience across its highest-end offerings.
Launch Timeline and Powertrain Options
The Tata Sierra is likely to launch by the end of 2025 and will fall into Tata's lineup above the Curvv SUV. It will be offered in ICE and EV formats. The ICE version may use Tata's 1.5L turbo-petrol engine and also the Stellantis 2.0L diesel engine.
The EV will share its platform with the Harrier EV, along with two battery options of 65kWh and 75kWh, and will have a dual-motor QWD powertrain producing 504Nm of torque.
As the Sierra gets to hit the Indian roads yet again, it aims to blend heritage with modern technology together in a compelling offering.
