Tata Motors has officially confirmed the Sierra EV will arrive in the second half of FY2026-27, with test mules already spotted on public roads.
Two all-new models, including the possible Avinya fastback and Safari EV, are lined up alongside four facelifts for 2026.
Tata Motors wrapped up FY26 in fine form, with the Nexon and Punch continuing to dominate the sales charts. The all-new Sierra, which only recently entered the fray, has already carved out a respectable position, ranking fifth in the highly contested 4.2m to 4.5m SUV segment and commanding a market share of over 11 per cent.
On the electric front, the numbers are equally encouraging. The company's EV market share held steady at 40.2 per cent, cumulative EV sales crossed the 250,000 unit milestone, and EV penetration across the portfolio reached a healthy 14 per cent. It is against this backdrop that Tata Motors laid out its product road map for the year ahead during its Q4 earnings call.
Sierra EV Gets an Official Launch Window
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles MD and CEO Shailesh Chandra confirmed during the earnings call that the Sierra EV will be launched in the second half of FY2026-27. This is a meaningful commitment, given the Sierra nameplate's near-iconic status in India and the considerable anticipation surrounding its electric version.
What the Sierra EV Is Expected to Bring to the Table
Test mules of the Sierra EV have already been spotted on road tests, offering a glimpse of what is to come. The electric variant is expected to carry some distinguishing design touches over its ICE sibling, including a closed-off body-coloured grille, revised lighting elements, and reworked front and rear bumpers. Exclusive colour options and EV-specific badging are also anticipated.
In terms of features, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) charging could feature on the Sierra EV, setting it apart from the standard model. While detailed technical specifications are yet to be confirmed, it is expected that entry-level variants will offer front-wheel or rear-wheel drive, with an AWD dual-motor setup likely available as an option.
Two All-New Models Are Also in the Pipeline for 2026
Beyond the Sierra EV, Tata Motors is planning two additional all-new product launches this year. While neither has been officially named, one of them could well be the Avinya fastback. This would mark Tata's entry into the luxury electric car space, as the Avinya is built on Jaguar Land Rover's Electrified Modular Architecture (EMA) platform.
Despite its premium positioning, the car is said to be aimed at practical, everyday use rather than purely aspirational appeal.
The other new launch is widely expected to be the Safari EV, which would become Tata's first seven-seater flagship electric SUV. Battery options are expected to draw from the Harrier EV's existing pack, and a dual-motor AWD configuration is anticipated for higher variants. The Safari EV will go up against the Mahindra XEV 9S in what promises to be a compelling rivalry.
Facelifts and a Production Scale-Up Round Out the Plan
In addition to the new launches, facelifted versions of the Tiago, Tiago EV, Tigor, and Tigor EV are also expected to arrive this year, bringing the total number of significant product actions at Tata to six.
On the production side, the company has set a target of scaling Sierra output to 10,000 units per month or beyond, addressing current wait times that range between four and eight weeks across the range.
