Skoda is on the verge of launching the second generation of its global mid-size (D-segment) SUV, the Kodiaq, in India. Volkswagen will, at the same time, launch the third generation of its global compact (C-segment) SUV – the Tiguan.
Reports indicate the brand-new VW Tiguan will be arriving at Indian dealerships a few days ahead of the brand-new Skoda Kodiaq. Wolfsburg's high-end SUV is 4,539 mm in length, 1,859 mm wide, and 1,656 mm tall and measures 2,680 mm wheelbase. It is being launched only in an R Line variant imported as a CBU, which will be very expensive.
Powertrain of the new 2025 VW Tiguan
The 2025 VW Tiguan is driven by a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine producing 204 PS and 320 Nm of torque. A 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and a permanent all-wheel drive system combine to transmit drive to the wheels.
Features of the new 2025 VW Tiguan
Volkswagen also fitted the 2025 Tiguan with electronically controlled shock absorbers that change according to the road surface and driving conditions. Also part of the advanced running gear is an electronic locking differential for better traction and handling.
LED Plus headlights, 19-inch Coventry alloy wheels, animated 3D LED rear combination lamps, a three-zone automatic climate control system, a dual wireless smartphone charger, 21 Level 2 ADAS functions, and nine airbags are also among the highlights.
Information on Skoda Kodiaq
The 2025 Skoda Kodiaq is a more family-friendly car, providing seven seats and additional gear and luggage space. Skoda's brand director in India, Petr Janeba, has stated that the company is thinking of introducing a five-seat variant as well, according to the sources. The company will probably be introducing it with the same engine, transmission, and all-wheel drive system as Volkswagen's 2025 Tiguan.
Interiors of Skoda Kodiaq
Skoda is expected to introduce the 2025 Kodiaq in India with accessories such as 18-inch alloy wheels, a 13-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, Smart Dials with integrated 1.3-inch displays, three-zone automatic climate control system, electric front seats with adjustable and ventilated functions, a dual wireless smartphone charger, and a panoramic sunroof.
The company is assembling the flagship SUV locally, so anticipate a more rational pricing compared to Volkswagen's 2025 Tiguan.
Conclusion
As the 2025 Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tiguan R Line arrive on the doorstep, the Volkswagen Group is poised to make a bold entry into India's premium SUV segment. While the Tiguan will be the choice of enthusiasts who want a technology-loaded, performance-oriented package, the Kodiaq provides a more practical, spacious, family-friendly option. Both these international SUVs, together, are likely to re-ignite interest in the premium imported segment, signaling VW Group's renewed push and seriousness towards the Indian market.
