Renault Kiger Long Term Review A Year And 14000km Of Comfort Space And Style

Renault Kiger Long-Term Review: A Year and 14,000km of Comfort, Space, and Style

Renault Kiger CVT: A Reliable City Companion

After clocking over 14,000km in a year, the Renault Kiger CVT has proven to be an ideal urban SUV for daily commuting and occasional long drives. Replacing the Kiger Turbo MT in our fleet, the CVT variant stands out for its effortless drive experience and practicality.

Compact in size, it’s perfectly suited for tight parking spots while still offering the elevated seating position and commanding view of an SUV.

The high seating position not only provides a confident driving experience but also avoids direct exposure to glaring LED headlights of two-wheelers, a common annoyance on Indian roads.

Inside, the Kiger impresses with its spacious cabin, comfortably accommodating five adults on numerous airport trips and city rides.

Performance and Driveability

Under the hood, the 1.0-liter turbocharged engine paired with the CVT gearbox is optimized for city driving. The CVT’s smooth acceleration and well-placed pedals, including a much-appreciated dead pedal, enhance comfort during long drives.

The absence of manual shifting isn’t a drawback, as a quick accelerator tap activates the torque band for seamless overtaking. However, engine noise, initially perceived as sporty, has grown intrusive over time.

The Kiger’s drive modes—Normal, Eco, and Sport—offer varied experiences. While Normal mode is perfect for city commutes, Sport mode adds responsiveness at the cost of fuel efficiency. Eco mode, however, is underwhelming, with sluggish performance that makes the car nearly undriveable.

Comfort and Features

Renault has packed the Kiger with features to ensure a comfortable ride. The digital driver’s display adds a modern touch, although the tachometer is curiously absent in Normal mode. The air conditioning system works efficiently, especially during peak summer months, though the infotainment system occasionally shows an overheat warning.

Wireless Android Auto connectivity is seamless, adding convenience for tech-savvy users.

Areas for Improvement

While the Kiger offers a lot, there’s room for improvement. A sunroof, lighter cabin upholstery, paddle shifters, and cooled seats on higher trims would elevate the ownership experience. These additions would align the Kiger with market trends and customer expectations.

Verdict

The Renault Kiger’s distinctive design, spacious interiors, and practical features make it a standout choice in the compact SUV segment. It delivers excellent value for its price, often surprising onlookers with its premium appearance. For urban buyers seeking comfort, style, and efficiency, the Kiger CVT remains a strong contender.
