The large SUV market has been dominated by Toyota Fortuner ever since its beginning. The challenge to the king by MG Gloster and now Majestor, MG Majestor. Majestor's something different, which will turn it into a go-to muscle, brawly, butch, physically buff, dominating machine.
For the very first time, Majestor test mules have done away with camouflage and reveal production-spec body and light components. This points towards the fact that testing has moved to final stages and a launch is expected to take place in the near future.
More Information
Size will be MG Majestor's greatest friend. Maxus D90 (rebadged Majestor or vice versa) is 5,046 mm long, 2,016 mm wide without ORVMs, 1,876 mm tall, and it has a 2,950 mm long wheelbase. For the first time, a mass-market, premium large SUV has gone past the 5m length barrier, placing it extremely close to full-size SUVs.
On the contrary, the Majestor is 61 mm longer, 90 mm broader, and 9 mm taller than the Gloster. With the Toyota Fortuner in the picture, the Majestor is 251 mm longer, 161 mm broader, and 41 mm taller.
Additionally, the Majestor has a 205 mm longer wheelbase compared to the Fortuner. These figures are bound to become a significant factor for potential buyers to turn away from the Fortuner.
What to expect from MG Majestor
MG Majestor introduces a new fascia that appears more aggressive and sporty than the Gloster's. We have split headlight arrangement with clean LED DRLs on top and vertically stacked LED headlights at the bottom. Grill has become bigger and Orange highlights appear quite classy. Wheels will probably be 20-inches like Maxus D90 and will be shod with 265-section tyres.
The rear gets a linked LED taillight signature that highlights just how broad Majestor is. High departure angle reveals fat tyres and also on full display is its dual exhaust setup. There are a few significant updates on the inside as well. The dashboard is moderately updated with a bigger infotainment screen, squarish AC vents, and a few other additions.
The centre console has been updated, and the Majestor now gets three locking differentials (front, rear, and centre) compared to one locking rear differential on the Gloster and Fortuner. In terms of features, creature comforts, and equipment, the Majestor is expected to be a step ahead of the Gloster and two steps ahead of the Fortuner.
Powertrain of MG Majestor
The MG Majestor will be powered by a 2.0L Twin Turbo Diesel engine paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission sourced from ZF. Maxus D90 is being given a 247 bhp and 410 Nm tune or a 215 bhp and 500 Nm tune by the company. Both receive the same 8-speed automatic transmission and a 4X4 transfer case.
Conclusion
The MG Majestor is poised to be a game-changer for the large SUV class, not only as a replacement for the Gloster but as a serious challenger to the traditional stronghold of the Toyota Fortuner. Its aggressive design, class-leading measurements, superior off-road equipment, and presumably more feature-filled interior, position the Majestor as a more contemporary, upmarket, and capable proposition. With test mules having lately shed camouflage and a launch seeming imminent, SUV aficionados and segment die-hards alike have much to eagerly anticipate. The fight for the top spot among full-size SUVs just became a whole lot more fierce.
