Mercedes-Benz India has achieved a momentous milestone by producing their 200,000th vehicle from the super-modern facility at Chakan, Pune. This commemoration honors the unit which is an all-electric Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV; it makes a grand but appropriate statement in regards to both luxury and sustainability commitment from the brand into India.
An Odyssey Since 1995
That event was also graced by senior leadership, including Dr. Jorg Burzer, Member of the Board of Management, Mercedes-Benz Group AG, along with Santosh Iyer, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mercedes-Benz India, and Vyankatesh Kulkarni, Executive Director & Head of Operations.
From the seed sown back in 1995, the brand has gradually consolidated itself into the Indian passenger car market and transformed into what it is today.
The two most recent and final batches - 57,904 units have to be manufactured as of March 2, 2004, also under consideration under the threshold of 48 months.
Mercedes-Benz production in India becomes increasingly more of a story of evolution. The first 50,000 were produced over about 19 years; the next 100,000 were built within 9 years, and in the process the 50,000 have rolled out over a maximum of 2 years and 3 months. This plant was the first outside Germany to produce the Mercedes Maybach S500 and embarked on local production with the two electric vehicles, the EQS 580 Sedan and the EQS SUV and is the first luxury brand in India to localize two electric vehicles.
Currently, the company has 11 luxury models in India, including C-Class, E-Class LWB, GLC, GLE, GLS, and both EQS variants, thus covering the widest possible range of locally assembled luxury offerings in India.
Sustainable and Robust Investments
Mercedes-Benz India has made the 2022 commitment to running its production facility on 100% green energy. It is expected to invest ₹3,000 crores overall, including an investment of ₹200 crores in 2024. This investment continues to pay off for the leader in the luxury car manufacturing segment.
Mercedes-Benz has also cemented a very strong retail and service presence across India. It boasts of 100+ touchpoints for luxury offerings across more than 50 cities.
Going Forward: Electric, Luxurious, And Indian
This further reaffirms the brand "Made in India, for India." The EQS SUV is also the 200,000th car produced because it rolls out from the production facility; Mercedes-Benz ends up communicating with its desire of combining local manufacturing excellence with global luxury standards through innovation, sustainability, and a customer-first ethos, all in one message.
