Mahindra Sales Report May 2026: SUVs Cross 58,000 Units, Three-Wheelers Post 89% Growth

Mahindra's May 2026 sales report marks a strong month for the Indian automaker, with domestic SUV volumes crossing the 58,000-unit mark and the three-wheeler segment delivering a standout 89% year-on-year surge. Commercial vehicle categories and exports also posted robust numbers, reinforcing the company's momentum heading into the second quarter of FY27, despite ongoing supply-side pressures.

  • Mahindra's domestic SUV sales grew 11% year-on-year to 58,021 units in May 2026, driven entirely by its utility vehicle portfolio.
  • The three-wheeler segment recorded the sharpest climb, surging 89% over May 2025, with exports also rising 37% in the same period.

Mahindra and Mahindra has wrapped up May 2026 on a confident note, recording total vehicle sales of 99,636 units including exports, a 20% increase over the same month last year.

The result underscores a sustained upward trajectory for the homegrown automaker, which has steadily consolidated its position as one of India's most dominant vehicle manufacturers across multiple segments.

SUV Volumes Hold Firm Above the 58,000-Unit Mark

In the domestic passenger vehicle space, Mahindra sold 58,021 utility vehicles, representing an 11% year-on-year rise over the 52,431 units retailed in May 2025.

The month-on-month comparison against April 2026's figure of 56,331 units reflects a 3% sequential uptick as well. Since Mahindra no longer operates in the conventional car or van segment, the UV category accounts for the entirety of its passenger vehicle tally.

For the first two months of FY27 (April to May 2026), cumulative domestic passenger vehicle sales stood at 1,14,352 units, up 9% compared to 1,04,761 units over the same period in FY26.

Three-Wheelers Lead Commercial Vehicle Growth

Across its commercial vehicle portfolio, Mahindra posted healthy gains. Sales of light commercial vehicles below two tonnes grew 35% to 3,490 units, while the 2T to 3.5T segment expanded 16% to reach 20,589 units.

The real standout, however, was the three-wheeler category. Mahindra sold 12,536 three-wheelers in May 2026, including electric variants, clocking an eye-catching 89% year-on-year increase from 6,635 units sold in May 2025.

On a cumulative basis, three-wheeler volumes for April to May 2026 totalled 22,435 units, up 85% from 12,105 units in the corresponding period last year.

Exports Climb 37% in May 2026

Mahindra's export performance continued its upward run, with total shipments rising 37% to 5,000 units in May 2026, compared to 3,646 units a year earlier.

On a year-to-date basis, export volumes for April to May 2026 reached 9,970 units, a 42% improvement over the 7,027 units shipped during the same period in FY26.

Supply Constraints Remain a Concern

Despite the broadly positive figures, Mahindra acknowledged that supply chain pressures have not fully eased. Manpower shortages at select suppliers continue to present challenges, though the company has managed to keep volumes above key thresholds.

The overall picture heading into the remainder of FY27 remains encouraging, with demand described as strong across the portfolio.
