Kia revealed its long-term global product plan at the company's 2025 Investor Day recently. The strategy maps out several EVs and hybrid models for global as well as Indian markets, including the Seltos hybrid.
The South Korean automobile manufacturer has also confirmed two mass-market electric vehicles for India – the Carens EV and the Syros EV. Although the former is expected to come on the roads in June, the latter can arrive on Indian roads in the first quarter of 2026.
More information on the car
The Kia Syros EV will be the brand's smallest electric SUV, which will take on the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400 EV. On the price front, it will also compete with the MG Windsor EV, which already leads the segment. The production center for this new EV will be Kia's Anantapur plant.
Key Details about Kia’s Smallest SUV
The Syros EV will be designed on the modified version of Hyundai’s K2 platform. Visually, it will look slightly different from its ICE counterpart with some EV-specific elements. The official details are not available at this moment. However, the electric SUV is expected to feature a closed-off grille, revised bumpers, newly-designed alloy wheels and ‘EV’ badges.
The interior design and equipment will be the same as in the ICE-powered Syros. Nonetheless, the electric version of the SUV is expected to feature some EV images in the digital instrument cluster.
The list of features will continue to feature a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats for the front, a climate control 5-inch touchscreen, an 8-speaker Harman Kardon setup, ambient lighting in 64 colours, a 12.3-inch HD touchscreen display, a 4.2-inch MID display, C-Type USB charger for rear and front occupants, cruise control, Level 2 ADAS and so forth.
As of yet, nothing official has been mentioned regarding its powertrain details. Nevertheless, the Kia Syros EV should guarantee an approximate range of 450km on a full charge.
Conclusion
Kia's entry into India's compact electric SUV segment with Syros EV is a major step in its wider electrification agenda. With rivals such as Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400 already around, the Syros EV features competitively alongside and also offers a highly competitive estimated 450km range; the car is likely to appeal to a broad range of buyers seeking an attractive, high-tech, green car. With excitement mounting in anticipation of its planned June launch, the spotlight is now on Kia to understand how its most affordable EV SUV transforms the market in India.
