Honda Cars India April 2026 Sales Report: Domestic Up 21%, Exports Drop 42%

Honda Cars India opened FY2027 with a sharp 21% surge in domestic sales during April 2026, driven by steady demand for the Amaze, City, and Elevate. However, a steep 42% decline in exports tempered the overall growth, leaving total volumes nearly flat at 4,938 units, a story of two very contrasting halves that sets the tone for what promises to be a pivotal year ahead for the Japanese automaker.

  • Honda Cars India's April 2026 domestic and export sales performance compared to the same period last year.
  • Upcoming product launches include the City facelift and ZR-V SUV, and Honda's longer-term EV roadmap for India.

Honda Cars India registered total sales of 4,938 units in April 2026, marking a modest 1.38% year-on-year (YoY) increase over the 4,871 units sold in April 2025. On the surface, the numbers may appear unremarkable, but dig a little deeper and the domestic market tells a far more encouraging story.

The company sold 4,069 units in the domestic market, reflecting a robust 21.10% YoY growth compared to 3,360 units in April 2025. The Amaze, City, and Elevate continued to anchor Honda's India portfolio, demonstrating that there remains a loyal and growing customer base for the brand's core offerings. It is worth noting, however, that on a month-on-month basis, domestic volumes declined by 46.35% from the 7,585 units sold in March 2026, a dip that is almost always expected following the financial year-end buying rush.

Export Decline Offsets Domestic Gains

Exports for April 2026 stood at just 869 units, a sharp 42.49% decline from the 1,511 units shipped in April 2025. This significant drop in overseas shipments effectively neutralised what was otherwise a strong domestic performance, leaving Honda's overall growth figure looking far flatter than the home market alone would suggest.

Whether this reflects softness in overseas demand or a timing adjustment in shipments remains to be seen. What is clear, though, is that Honda will need to address the export weakness if it hopes to show more meaningful top-line growth in the months ahead.

Two New Launches on 22 May, City Facelift and ZR-V SUV

Honda is set to launch two products simultaneously on 22 May 2026, each targeting a very different type of buyer and serving a distinct strategic purpose - Honda City Facelift and Honda ZR-V.

The City facelift will see the iconic mid-size sedan refreshed with cosmetic design updates, expected to draw inspiration from the global-spec Honda Civic, along with interior tweaks, an updated infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, and possibly ventilated front seats.

The ZR-V, on the other hand, is a different proposition altogether. It will arrive as a fully imported, Completely Built Unit (CBU), positioned firmly in the premium SUV space.

Management Remains Upbeat Heading Into FY2027

Kunal Behl, Vice President of Marketing and Sales at Honda Cars India Ltd., described the beginning of the new fiscal year as a positive one. He pointed specifically to the 21% domestic growth and expressed confidence in sustaining momentum on the back of strong demand for the Amaze, City, and Elevate.

Given what Honda has lined up for the coming months, that confidence appears well-founded.

Made-in-India EVs From 2027 Onwards

Looking beyond the immediate product calendar, Honda has its sights set firmly on India's electric vehicle segment.

From 2027 onwards, the company plans to begin locally manufacturing models in India, with the 0 Alpha electric SUV, based on Honda's global 0 Series concept, already spotted undergoing testing on Indian roads. This signals that Honda's ambitions in India are not limited to internal combustion engines; the brand is clearly positioning itself for the long game in an increasingly electrified market.

What April's Numbers Mean for the Road Ahead

April 2026 is a month of two very different narratives for Honda Cars India. The domestic market is clearly responding well to what the brand has on offer, and the upcoming City facelift and ZR-V launches could meaningfully sustain, or even accelerate, that momentum heading into the first half of FY2027. The export weakness, however, remains a challenge that the company will need to address as the year progresses.

For buyers considering a sedan, a compact SUV, or a premium hybrid, Honda's product pipeline over the coming twelve months makes it one of the more interesting brands to watch in the Indian market.
