If someone is looking for a sub-compact SUV, chances are that one can find established champions like the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, and Kia’s Sonet. Kia believes there is a need for premium offerings within the segment and the existing options are very similar to each other.
Why does Kia Syros make sense?
There are no sub 4-meter SUVs in the market that resemble the Syros. Although opinions on its tall-boy external design language will differ, it is undeniable that it departs from the traditional body form and style that all of its competitors have adopted. Additionally, it has eye-catching stylistic elements including 17-inch crystal-cut wheels, a Digital Tiger Nose grille, and ICE-cube headlights. Even the entry-level and mid-range models have either 16-inch crystal-cut alloy wheels or 15-inch steel wheels.
The cabin of the Syros is easily the best for any SUV in the segment, the rear seats can slide forward and backward according to the utility, the windows of the rear seat passengers get manual shades while there is a mammoth sunroof at the top, the cargo area feels a bit big and its depth means it can add additional luggage to it.
Kia provides the core with comfort and convenience, there is a Harman Kardon Speaker system along with a Level 2 ADAS with a massive 30-inch infotainment screen and AC controls along with wireless support for Android Auto Apple CarPlay, and more.
Syros is available with both petrol and diesel engine options and offers both Automatic and Manual Gearboxes, the Turbo petrol motor comes with a 7-speed DCT unit. Syros also boasts a 3 drive mode and along with that it also has 3 terrain modes.
Where Syros Lacks
For anyone on a restricted budget, the Syros may end up being a more expensive option, the Base variant of Syros costs 1 Lakh Rs less than the base variant of Syros whereas the top end is almost Rs 2 Lakh more affordable.
If there is a long list of features it is a green flag for the car, but Syros provides less-used features such as voice commands, digital cards, and ADAS for paying big money is not technically worth it.
Syros looks unconventional and a bit futuristic and may not like those sections of customers who like their SUVs big and muscular.
Conclusion
Syros might disappoint you if you are on a very tight budget and also prefer conventional looks in the chosen drive option. But if you love a car with plenty of features and a premium cabin and want to stand out of the crowd while driving and don't have a limit on your pocket, then Syros might impress you and you would probably want to buy it.
