Car sales of Maruti, Hyundai, Mahindra, Kia and Honda in Jan 2025

Total car sales in January 2025 were at 4,01,538 units, as compared to 3,93,471 units in January last year. Car sales in December 2024 were at 3,21,345 units. Among the 14 carmakers, 7 have positive YoY growth. Top gainers include Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra, Toyota, Skoda, MG Motor and Kia.

Overall Car Sales in Jan 2025 with Maruti leading the race which increases the market share

Sales of Maruti Suzuki in January 2025 were at 1,73,599 units. YoY gain is 4.1%, as compared to 1,66,802 units sold in the corresponding period last year. MoM growth is higher at 33.4%, as compared to 1,30,115 units sold in December 2024. Maruti’s market share increased from 42.4% to 43.2% in January 2025.

Key Takeaways

  • Hyundai is ranked number two on the list, having sold 54,003 units in January. Compared to 57,115 units sold during the same period last year, YoY growth is negative at -5.4%. However, compared to the 42,208 units sold in December 2024, Hyundai has recorded an astounding 27.9% MoM growth. Hyundai's market share decreased from 14.5% to 13.4% in January, a 1.1% decrease.

  • Third place goes to Mahindra, which sold 50,659 vehicles in January. At 17.6% and 22.3%, respectively, the YoY and MoM figures are both positive. Sales were 43,068 units in January of last year and 41,424 units in December of 2024. With a 1.7% increase in market share, Mahindra has the largest rise among all automakers. In January, it was 10.9%; now, it is 12.6%.

  • In January, Tata Motors sold 48,075 units, placing them in fourth place. When compared to the 53,635 units sold during the same period last year, the YoY growth is negative at -10.4%. Compared to the 44,221 units sold in December 2024, the MoM growth is respectable at 8.7%. From 13.6% in January 2025 to 12.0% now, Tata's market share has decreased by -1.7%.

  • With 26,178 vehicles sold in January, Toyota comes in at number five. Compared to the 23,197 units sold in January of last year, the YoY rise is 12.9%. Compared to the 24,887 units sold in December 2024, the MoM growth is 5.2%. In January 2025, Toyota's market share increased from 5.9% to 6.5%, a 0.6% increase.

  • Skoda, which has the biggest YoY growth at 73.9%, is next on the list. From 2,377 units in January 2024 to 4,133 units in January 2025, sales have increased. Skoda's MoM growth, meanwhile, is negative at -9.2%. The market share increased by 0.4%. Volkswagen comes in at number ten on the list with 3,344 units sold. While MoM growth is down -30.1%, YoY growth is up 2.4%. In January 2025, Volkswagen's market share remained unchanged.

  • With 2,780 units, Renault comes in at number eleven, followed by Nissan (2,404), Citroen (470), and Jeep (310). YoY growth is negative for all four. In terms of month-over-month growth, Nissan and Jeep have positive growth of 13.5% and 8.4%, respectively, while Renault and Citroen have negative growth.

Conclusion

The Indian automobile market saw consistent expansion in January 2025, with total sales amounting to 4,01,538 units, a 2.05% YoY rise. Mahindra and Toyota also showed significant increases, while Maruti Suzuki dominated with significant gains. Positive MoM trends, with growing market shares for major companies like Mahindra, Skoda, and MG, show market resilience despite reductions for Hyundai and Tata.
