Ford Rethinking the idea of a comeback in India

Sources with firsthand knowledge of the situation claim that the corporation is currently reevaluating its plans for India and won't make an announcement until the end of the summer. According to a source, the company's board of directors deliberated on the issue in January and has chosen to hold off on making any statements at this time.

According to the sources directly from the company, it is revealed that the company is currently reconsidering its India plans and will announce the final decision only in late summer. The company’s board has decided not to make any announcements right now. There is definitely a delay from the company’s side as they’re using this time to do a rethink of its Indian strategy.

A spokesperson from Ford told that Ford is committed to utilizing the manufacturing capabilities In Chennai to serve the global markets and are thankful to Tamil Nadu government for their continued support and further it was told that other details will be shared in due course of time and there is nothing additional to be shared.

Several Factors responsible for slow down.

Several factors are responsible for Ford to slow down its Indian return process, which includes the political climate in the US right now is less amenable towards foreign investments and is more focused on bringing the automobile to the USA and other neighboring countries. Also Ford needs to line up significant investments to make its nearly three decade old Maraimalainagar Plan operating again.

Conclusion

Auto Experts have said if Ford decides to re-engineer its Chennai plant for EVs, it will cost between USD 100 to USD 300 Million, given that the welding and assembly lines will have to be redone.
