At the 2025 São Paulo Motor Show, Citroën presents a 2026 Basalt Vision concept that is sharper and more sporty.
The aggressive design suggests a potential performance-focused Basalt model for the Indian and Latin American markets in the future.
At the 2025 São Paulo Motor Show, Citroën unveiled its 2026 Basalt Vision concept, providing the first tangible look at a drastically altered Basalt SUV. This edition is sharper, more athletic, and obviously performance-focused, even if the "Vision" name existed before this revelation.
Style That Screams Sports
The concept is immediately distinctive because of its vivid amber-yellow paint finish. The ride height has been lowered by Citroën, giving the car a more grounded, coupe-SUV look.
Important design elements include:
"VISION" emblems on the fenders.
Darkened skid plates with accents of double chevrons.
An updated rear end including a darker tail-lamp strip.
A powerful bumper with two chrome exhausts.
18-inch gloss-black body cladding and chrome-finished alloy wheels.
Bold red accents on the exterior, brake callipers, and spoiler in Citroën's iconic Rouge André.
Direction is clear, but the interior is still a mystery
The interior of the concept has not yet been made public by Citroën. However, the striking external design definitely implies that a more upscale and athletic Basalt may be in the works. A model that might be superior to the current production versions is indicated by the design cues.
Why Make This Idea Public Now?
It appears deliberate to introduce this improved Vision concept long after the launch of the standard Basalt. Citroën states that the objectives are to:
Reiterate the Basalt's design foundation.
Create aspirational value for markets in Latin America.
Indicate the possible release of more aggressive versions, like a Basalt Sport or GT variant.
Potential Consequences for India
This new aggressive appearance may indicate that a performance-focused Basalt will eventually reach the Indian market as well, because Citroën initially unveiled the Basalt Vision concept there.
It might use the same 1.2-liter turbo-petrol engine as current Citroën vehicles, but it would probably be modified for higher power, according to analysts.
Context and Legacy
Originally intended to be a small SUV-coupe for both South America and India, the Basalt Vision concept made its debut in March 2024. It is based on the Smart Car Platform.
Even in this sportier version, the earlier concept's emphasis on a combination of robustness, comfort, and strong style is still there.
