Audi India Recalls 207 Units of Q8 e-tron and e-tron Sportback Over Brake Defect

A faulty brake servo push rod connection has prompted Audi India to recall 207 units of the e-tron, e-tron Sportback, Q8 e-tron, and Q8 e-tron Sportback. The affected vehicles span a six-year production window, and owners will be contacted directly for free inspection and rectification at authorised service centres across the country.

  • 207 Audi electric vehicles in India are subject to a safety recall over a brake servo push rod connection issue.

  • The recall covers models manufactured between February 2018 and June 2024, with free repairs offered to all affected owners.

Audi India has initiated a recall campaign covering 207 electric vehicles sold in the country, citing a potential fault in the brake servo push rod connection. The affected models include the e-tron, e-tron Sportback, Q8 e-tron, and Q8 e-tron Sportback, all manufactured between 2 February 2018 and 11 June 2024.

According to the official recall notice, the bolted connection for the brake servo push rod on the affected vehicles may not fully comply with the required technical specifications.

Over time, this connection could gradually loosen, compromising the mechanical link between the brake pedal and the brake servo unit. In plain terms, if left unchecked, it could weaken the driver's ability to apply brakes conventionally.

A Safety Net Already Built In

While the issue sounds alarming on paper, Audi has been quick to point out that the situation is unlikely to escalate to a complete failure. In the event that the connection does become entirely loose, the vehicles are equipped with a controlled emergency braking function.

Drivers can activate this by pressing and holding the electromechanical parking brake button located on the centre console. It is a fallback measure that the company has ensured is ready and accessible, even in a worst-case scenario.

That said, the presence of a backup system does not diminish the seriousness of the recall. Audi has done the right thing by proactively addressing the fault rather than waiting for incidents to surface in the field.

What Affected Owners Can Expect

The recall involves inspection and rectification of the affected components at authorised Audi service centres. Importantly, this will be carried out at no additional cost to the customer. Audi India is expected to reach out directly to the owners of affected vehicles as part of the service campaign, so those who believe their car falls within the specified production window need not worry about chasing up the brand themselves.

Owners can, of course, contact their nearest authorised Audi dealership to verify whether their vehicle is included in the recall and to schedule a service appointment at the earliest.

A Responsible Step in the Right Direction

Recalls of this nature, while concerning at first glance, are ultimately a sign that manufacturers are keeping a close watch on their vehicles once they are out on the road.

For a brand like Audi, maintaining trust in its growing electric vehicle lineup is critical, particularly as the Indian luxury EV market continues to mature. Acting swiftly and transparently on a safety concern goes a long way in preserving that trust among existing and prospective buyers.
