Volvo Cars India is now launching EVs (Electric Vehicles) more comprehensively in India with the EX90 and EX30 electric SUVs by 2025. With this new product launch, Volvo takes an important stride to realize its Roadmap 2025: EVs for India, wherein it aims to double its EV line-up, along with the V40 Recharge, C40 Recharge, and other existing models.
In her recent comment to the media Jyoti Malhotra, Managing Director of Volvo, assured the company is intent to be at the forefront of the electric cars. According to Malhotra, the Volvo is, at this time, looking at the possibility of full assembly components both the EX30 and EX90 SUVs which are expected to drive the rising demand for electric cars in the Indian market.
Sales of Volvo's EV products in India have registered a year-on-year increase, as evidenced by the majority being EVs, out of which Volvo sold 690 EVs in 2023, which accounted for 28 per cent of its total sales. Hence: the proportions are 519 CIRCUMFLEX ACCENT + units of XC40 Recharge as well as 180 CIRCUMFLEX ACCENT + units of C40 Recharge. Malhotra spoke for optimism about the prospect of EV sales seeing an increase of 33% in 2024, which may result in Volvo achieving its sales target of half of its cars being EV cars.
Malhotra emphasized that the adoption of EVs by one type of segment in India was higher than those in mass market segments. We saw that luxury cars dominated EV sales. She anticipates that this trend will be upheld and by 2030 approx. 50% of the luxury car sales in India will be accounted for by EVs.
Volvo's initiative pledges not only "spark off" from the range of products, but also to become a fully electric brand by 2030. While traditional car manufacturing industries are still hesitant about putting electricity in cars, Volvo is taking the lead by integrating the development of new emission-free technologies into their vision for the future. Developing a direct sale channel for electric cars via an "end customer" sales model, Volvo looks to optimize its operations and expand the scope of its business in the Indian market further.
Apart from its EV expansion plans, Volvo also is contemplating India as a production hub along with exports for its vehicles. Although no concrete decisions have yet been made, this can be viewed as an opportunity for Volvo to exploit India as a hub for technological advances.
The next-gen EX90 and EX30 are supposed to take emerging EV SUV market dominance with their impressive power output and range. The EX90, introduced two years back, offers a seven-seated arrangement and is based on the EV SPA2 base. A 111kWh battery and 517hp of power are mentioned in the top-spec Nissan air-purifying EV and the range on the WLTP cycle is 600km On the one hand, however, the EX30, adopting the SEA platform, is the electric SUV and delivers a maximum of 427 hp with a 69 kW battery onboard.
On the wheels of Volvo going all in with its EV electric future, fans should watch out for these excitingly upcoming EV SUVs set alongside possible changes in the XC40 and C40 Recharge model lines over the next few years.
