The Maruti Ertiga retains its position as India's most in-demand mass-market MPV, clocking 20,350 units in May 2026.
The Kia Carens, including the Clavis variant, posted the highest year-on-year growth in the segment at 37 per cent.
The mass-market MPV segment in India had a productive May 2026, with nine nameplates collectively dispatching 59,486 units, up 5 per cent from April 2026's tally of 56,702 units and a significant 22 per cent higher than the 48,931 units retailed in May 2025.
As it has for years now, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga sat comfortably at the summit, with 20,350 units finding their way to buyers last month. That figure represents a 7 per cent month-on-month rise and a notable 26 per cent jump over May 2025, reaffirming just how deeply the Ertiga is embedded in the Indian family car psyche.
Not far behind, the Maruti Suzuki Eeco continued its unassuming but consistent run with 13,240 units in May 2026, up marginally by 1 per cent over April. The Eeco's strength, as ever, lies as much in its popularity with commercial operators as with private buyers.
Adding the XL6's 3,770 units and the Invicto's 301 units to the mix, Maruti Suzuki's four-MPV portfolio collectively moved over 37,600 units in May, a figure that underlines just how dominant the brand is in this segment.
Toyota Innova Twins Post Strong Combined Numbers
Toyota had reason to be pleased as well. The Innova Crysta and Innova Hycross together contributed 10,325 units in May 2026, up 7 per cent month-on-month and 16 per cent year-on-year.
The Innova remains the benchmark for quality and reliability in the segment, and its consistent performance month after month reflects that enduring reputation.
The Invicto, which is a rebadged version of the Innova Hycross sold through Maruti's Nexa network, also registered its strongest recent performance, growing 27 per cent month-on-month and 35 per cent year-on-year to close at 301 units.
Kia Carens Records the Highest YoY Growth in the Segment
The Kia Carens, counted together with the newer Carens Clavis variant, emerged as the segment's growth story of the month. Combined sales of 6,208 units in May 2026 represent a 14 per cent month-on-month gain and a 37 per cent year-on-year surge, the highest annual growth rate among all MPVs in this ranking. For a nameplate that has gradually matured in the market, those are numbers worth noting.
Toyota Rumion, Triber, and Gravite Record a Dip
Not every model had cause to celebrate. The Toyota Rumion was the biggest casualty in percentage terms, sliding 18 per cent month-on-month to 2,119 units, the steepest fall in the segment.
The Renault Triber managed 1,890 units, a marginal 1 per cent decline from April. The Nissan Gravite, which is still establishing its footing in the market, fell 10 per cent to 1,283 units. The Triber and Gravite combined accounted for just 3,173 units, suggesting the most affordable end of the MPV segment still has headroom to grow.
The broader picture, however, remains encouraging. A 22 per cent year-on-year rise tells you that the appetite for seven-seaters in India is only getting stronger.
