Tata Curvv Vs Citroen Basalt The Ultimate Compact Suv Showdown

Tata Curvv vs Citroen Basalt: The Ultimate Compact SUV Showdown

The market of compact SUVs in India expects a new product introduction with the Tata Curvv and Citroen Basalt in the manufacturing pipeline. As for both models, these vehicles have been designed to evoke the interest of fans of SUVs due to their characteristics. The Citroen Basalt is currently in production and can be bought, but the Tata Curvv is yet to be launched. Which car-buying contender should you choose? Here is a detailed comparison of the two contenders – their dimensions, powertrains, features and cost.

Dimensions

In terms of dimensions, the Citroen Basalt and Tata Curvv each bring unique advantages. The Citroen Basalt measures 4352 mm in length, surpassing the Tata Curvv’s length of 4308 mm by 44 mm. This length advantage contributes to a 91 mm longer wheelbase for the Basalt, which could translate to better rear-seat space. However, the Curvv is wider at 1810 mm compared to the Basalt’s 1765 mm, and it stands taller at 1630 mm, providing potentially better headroom and a more commanding driving position.

When it comes to boot space, the Tata Curvv edges out with a capacity of 500 litres, offering 30 litres more than the Basalt’s 470 litres. This additional space can be a significant factor for those needing extra luggage capacity.

Powertrain

The powertrain options reveal distinct strengths for each SUV. The Citroen Basalt offers a choice between a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 82 PS and 115 Nm of torque, and a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine delivering 110 PS and up to 205 Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic.

In contrast, the Tata Curvv provides a more diverse powertrain lineup. It features a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine with 120 PS and 170 Nm of torque, and a more powerful 1.5-litre diesel engine generating 118 PS and 260 Nm of torque. The Curvv’s engines are paired with a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic (DCT) transmission, offering smoother and quicker gear shifts compared to the Basalt’s options.

Feature Highlights

When it comes to features, the Tata Curvv clearly positions itself as a premium offering. Externally, it boasts auto-LED projector headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, and flush-type door handles. The interior features include a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with a 9-speaker JBL sound system, ventilated front seats, and a panoramic sunroof. The Curvv also comes equipped with advanced features such as a 360-degree camera, electronic parking brake with auto-hold, and Level 2 ADAS, which includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking.

The Citroen Basalt, while well-equipped, offers fewer premium features. It comes with LED headlights, 16-inch alloy wheels, and flap-style door handles. Inside, it features a 7-inch digital driver’s display and a 10.2-inch touchscreen with a 6-speaker sound system. Comfort features include a wireless phone charger and automatic AC, but it lacks the advanced technology and higher-end features found in the Curvv.

Pricing

Pricing is a crucial factor in the decision-making process. The Citroen Basalt is positioned as a more budget-friendly option, with prices ranging from ₹7.99 lakh to ₹13.57 lakh (introductory). In comparison, the Tata Curvv is expected to be priced between ₹9.15 lakh and ₹17.30 lakh. The higher price of the Curvv reflects its additional features and engine options, including the availability of a diesel variant and more advanced technology.

Conclusion

The Tata Curvv and Citroen Basalt each offer compelling options in the compact SUV segment. The Curvv stands out with its premium features, diverse powertrain options, and advanced technology, making it an appealing choice for those seeking a high-tech and feature-rich SUV. On the other hand, the Citroen Basalt provides a stylish and cost-effective alternative for buyers looking for a practical and well-equipped SUV within a lower budget.

Ultimately, the choice between the Tata Curvv and Citroen Basalt will depend on individual preferences and budget considerations. The Curvv offers a more luxurious experience, while the Basalt delivers solid value with essential features.
