Suzuki is gearing up to unveil its first-ever battery electric vehicle (BEV), the eVX, tomorrow in Milan, marking a historic moment for the automaker as it dives into the world of electric mobility. The eVX, previously revealed as a concept at the 2023 Auto Expo, will be a compact electric SUV designed for global markets, with India positioned as a key launch territory. This anticipated model will also kickstart Suzuki’s electric vehicle manufacturing strategy in India, with production taking place at Maruti Suzuki’s facility in Gujarat. Scheduled for its official Indian launch in 2025, this production-ready eVX will not only bolster Suzuki’s EV lineup but will also lay the foundation for a Toyota variant expected to debut the same year.
The eVX concept, first introduced at the Auto Expo, measures a sleek 4.3 meters in length and is expected to sport a wheelbase of approximately 2.6 meters. Its substantial wheelbase suggests a spacious cabin for passengers, while Suzuki has also aimed to retain the brand’s signature compact SUV styling. This vision became clearer at the Japanese Mobility Show in 2023, where Suzuki showcased an updated version of the eVX featuring an almost production-ready exterior and an interior designed to enhance user experience.
With a 60kWh battery pack, the eVX promises an impressive 550-kilometer range on a full charge, putting it in direct competition with models like the Tata Curvv EV, Honda Elevate EV, MG ZS EV, Tata Harrier EV, and the MG Windsor EV. The 4.3-meter size also aligns with the rapidly growing compact electric SUV segment, which Suzuki aims to tap into. By pairing range with practicality, the eVX seeks to attract a broad consumer base looking for both eco-conscious travel and robust SUV capabilities.
The production-ready eVX is also symbolic of Suzuki’s ambitions to move beyond conventional fuel models and establish a foothold in the electric mobility space, which is gaining momentum in both domestic and international markets. With support from Maruti’s extensive reach in India, the eVX is positioned to meet the demands of both Indian customers and those in global markets like Europe, Japan, and the Middle East.
As Suzuki prepares to pull back the curtain on this model, the eVX’s production in Gujarat will not only boost the automaker’s EV portfolio but is also expected to generate a ripple effect, potentially impacting the electric SUV market with its unique mix of range, functionality, and brand legacy.
