Skoda Kylaq: Demand Soars, Waiting Period Now Up to 4 Months
Skoda’s latest compact SUV, the Kylaq, is off to a strong start in India, with deliveries and test drives officially beginning earlier this week. However, rising demand has led to extended waiting periods, ranging from 2 to 4 months, depending on the variant and transmission option.
With a starting price of Rs. 7.89 lakh and going up to Rs. 14.40 lakh (ex-showroom), the Kylaq has positioned itself as a competitive offering in the compact SUV segment.
Let’s take a closer look at the waiting periods for different variants and what this SUV has to offer.
Kylaq Waiting Period: Variant-Wise Breakdown
Skoda India plans to deliver 33,000 units of the Kylaq by May 2025, prioritizing higher-end trims in its initial production batches. However, some variants have longer waiting times than others:
Classic Trim (Base Variant): This entry-level variant has the longest waiting period of up to 4 months due to high demand and limited production in the first batch. It is currently available only with a manual transmission and a limited color range.
Signature Trim (Mid Variant): The waiting period for this trim is around 3 to 4 months. Both manual and automatic variants are in demand, with wait times varying based on color choices.
Signature+ & Prestige Trims (Top Variants): The top-end variants have a shorter waiting period of 2 to 3 months. These trims are prioritized in production and are available with both gearbox options in multiple colors.
Notably, Skoda had briefly paused orders for the Classic trim but recently reopened bookings. However, deliveries for these bookings are expected only in the second batch later this year.
Engine and Performance
Under the hood, the Skoda Kylaq is powered by a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine that produces 115hp and 178Nm of torque. Customers can choose between:
A 6-speed manual gearbox with an ARAI-rated fuel efficiency of 19.05 kmpl.
A 6-speed torque converter automatic with a slightly higher fuel efficiency of 19.68 kmpl.
Premium Features and Safety
The Kylaq doesn’t compromise on features, offering a tech-laden and comfortable cabin experience. Some key highlights include:
Six airbags as standard across all variants
10-inch touchscreen infotainment system
8-inch digital instrument cluster
Powered and ventilated front seats
Panoramic sunroof
Ambient lighting for a premium feel
Wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto
Additionally, the Kylaq recently secured a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating, reinforcing its position as a safe and reliable SUV for Indian buyers.
Conclusion
With an impressive feature list, a strong safety rating, and efficient powertrain options, the Skoda Kylaq has quickly gained traction in the Indian market. However, those looking to bring this compact SUV home, may have to wait up to 4 months, especially for the base variant.
As production ramps up, Skoda aims to deliver thousands of units by mid-2025, but customers should plan accordingly if they want their preferred variant and color choice.
