Photos of the first medium-sized all-electric Range Rover being tested in Lapland's frigid climate before it launches in 2026. The successor to the existing Range Rover Velar is most likely what we are looking at. It has reportedly been redesigned as a sleek, high-end electric SUV that aims to outperform the new Porsche Macan EV in terms of both performance and usefulness.
New Vehicle to be built using JLR’s EMA
JLR's electrified modular architecture (EMA), which will power the company's next line of EVs, will be used to build the new car. It will be the first of several new electric Land Rover models to be produced on the company's redesigned Halewood, UK, production line.
The electric Range Rover Evoque and Land Rover Discovery Sport models will follow shortly after. The electric Velar is anticipated to go into production later this year once the factory is transformed into an EV production facility.
More Information on this
Despite its ambitious goals, JLR has a history of being a hesitant adopter of electrification. Its sole fully electric vehicle to date is the Range Rover's entirely electric version and the Jaguar i-Pace SUV, which has had difficulty competing with more experienced electric vehicle manufacturers. Rivals like Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi, on the other hand, have been accelerating their transition to electric vehicles and provide a wide variety of plug-in model options.
Velar EV is currently being built in Solihull, UK
Currently, the Velar is being constructed in Solihull, UK. In addition to being manufactured in a different location, its successor will switch from the well-known D7 architecture to an entirely new platform known as EMA. It has now been confirmed that the Velar, Evoque, and Discovery Sport successors will only be electric. This new skateboard platform was first announced in 2021 and was designed to fit the smaller Land Rover models. Originally, it was supposed to support hybrid powertrains in addition to pure-electric systems.
Conclusion
Built on the new EMA platform at the refurbished Halewood factory, the next-generation Range Rover Velar represents JLR's daring foray into complete electrification. The Velar EV intends to compete with competitors such as Porsche, BMW, and Mercedes in the luxury electric SUV market as JLR refocuses. The Velar, the Evoque, and the Discovery Sport EVs are all part of JLR's commitment to an all-electric future, and production is scheduled to begin later this year.
