The Mercedes AMG SL 55 4Matic+ has been launched at a starting price of Rs. 2.35 crore. It is powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre, V8 engine coupled to a nine-speed automatic gearbox that produces a whopping 475 bhp of power and 700 Nm of peak torque. The car gets AMG 4Matic all-wheel-drive system and the company claims a 0-100 kmph sprint in 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 294 kmph. The feature list includes a 12.3-inch digital driver display and an 11.9-inch adjustable infotainment unit on the centre console with the latest MBUX system and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Other noteworthy mentions include the ‘Airscarf’ neck-level heating system, AMG twin-spoke steering wheel, optional heads-up display, heated and ventilated seats with massage function, a Burmester surround sound system, and a drop-top fabric roof that can be opened and closed below a speed of 60 kmph.
The exterior highlights include the larger Panamerican front grille, LED headlight, large air intakes, 20-inch alloy wheels, quad exhausts, and a long bonnet. There is a 21-inch alloy wheel available as an option. The company offers quite a lot of customisation options for the new car, for starters, the SL 55 has eight colour options to choose from: Obsidian black, Selenite grey, Hyper blue, Alpine grey, Opalite white bright, Spectral blue magno, Patagonia red bright and Monza grey magno. The fabric roof can be had in three colours: Black, Dark red, and Grey. The interior upholstery colour options include Black Nappa leather and microfibre with red stitching, Black Nappa leather, Sienna brown Nappa leather, Truffle brown Nappa leather, and Black Nappa leather and microfibre with yellow stitching. Other customisation package includes four alloy options, three soft top options, and two brake caliper options. The company claims over 24,000 combinations to customise the new Mercedes AMG SL 55 4Matic+. The safety kit includes eight airbags, a pre-safe system, pedestrian protection, a Mercedes-Benz emergency call system, and active lane-keeping assistance to name a few.
The car is 4,705 mm long, 1,915 mm wide, 1,359 mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,700 mm. The new dimensions have been increased by 88 mm, 38 mm, 44 mm, and 117 mm respectively. The roadster has a 2+2 seating configuration and will be brought as a Completely Built Unit (CBU). The Mercedes AMG SL 55 will lock horns with the likes of the Porsche 911 Carerra S Cabriolet and Lexus LC 500h to name a few.
