The 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLE arrives with a sharper exterior, an MBUX Superscreen cabin, and an expanded powertrain range spanning mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and diesel options.
The AMG GLE 53 Hybrid tops the line-up with serious performance figures, while an India launch is anticipated in early 2027.
Mercedes-Benz has revealed the 2027 GLE, and the changes are deliberate rather than dramatic. The SUV receives new LED headlamps with star-shaped lighting signatures and a revised grille up front, while the bumpers have been reshaped to improve airflow.
Around the back, the tail lamps carry updated graphics that give the GLE a fresher presence on the road. New alloy wheel options ranging from 19 to 21 inches are on offer, alongside additional paint finishes to broaden personalisation choices.
The Cabin Gets a Proper Technology Overhaul
Open the door, and the most significant change stares back at you immediately. The headline addition is the MBUX Superscreen, which spans the dashboard with three 12.3-inch displays sitting beneath a single sheet of glass.
The system runs Mercedes-Benz's latest MB.OS software, supports over-the-air updates and integrates an AI assistant. The steering wheel has been revised, ambient lighting elements updated, and new upholstery options added throughout.
A Wide Powertrain Range to Suit Different Buyers
The 2027 GLE line-up covers considerable ground when it comes to engines. The entry point is the GLE 350 4Matic, which uses an updated 2.0-litre mild-hybrid four-cylinder with an electric compressor, producing 255bhp and 400Nm.
Despite the outputs remaining unchanged from the outgoing model, performance has sharpened slightly, with the sprint from 0 to 96 kmph now taking 6.8 seconds, a tenth quicker than before.
Moving up the range, the GLE 450 petrol uses a 3.0-litre inline-six producing 375 bhp and 500Nm, supported by a 48V mild-hybrid system. Diesel buyers can choose between the GLE 300d with 266bhp and 550Nm, or the more potent GLE 450d with 362bhp and 750Nm from its six-cylinder unit.
For those seeking electrified efficiency, Mercedes-Benz offers two plug-in hybrid options. The GLE 400e delivers 375bhp and 650Nm, while the range-topping GLE 500e, replacing the outgoing 450e, pairs a 3.0-litre inline-six with an electric motor for a combined 429bhp and 681Nm, covering the 0 to 96kmph sprint in 5.0 seconds. Plug-in hybrid variants now also support faster DC charging across the board.
AMG GLE 53 Hybrid Raises the Performance Bar Considerably
At the very top of the range sits the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Hybrid, and it makes its intentions clear from the outside. The AMG Panamericana grille with vertical slats, larger air intakes, wider wheel arches, a quad-exhaust setup, and an integrated rear diffuser leave little doubt about what lies beneath the bonnet.
The AMG-specific cabin adds its own layer of intent, with a flat-bottomed steering wheel carrying drive mode controls, Nappa leather sports seats with contrast stitching, red seatbelts, and an infotainment display that shows live performance data, including G-force and torque split.
The powertrain pairs a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six petrol engine with an electric motor integrated into the nine-speed automatic gearbox. The two sources report slightly differing combined output figures for this variant, though both confirm the torque figure at 750Nm and a 0 to 96kmph time of 4.4 seconds, a half-second improvement over the previous model. Standard all-wheel drive and adaptive air suspension are included as part of the package.
The GLE Coupe Carries the Same Updates Forward
The GLE Coupe retains its signature sloping roofline while receiving the same design and technology revisions as the standard SUV. The rear gets a more tapered look with an integrated spoiler lip, and the AMG Line package comes as standard, bringing sportier bumpers and side skirts from the base version upwards.
Inside, the Coupe shares the same MBUX Superscreen layout and also gets 64-colour ambient lighting and a 15-speaker Burmester sound system delivering 710W of output. It carries the same engine options as the standard SUV but features a slightly firmer suspension tune for a more focused driving character.
On Sale Globally in 2026, India Expected to Follow in Early 2027
Mercedes-Benz will produce the 2027 GLE range at its North American facility, with a phased global rollout planned for later this year. For India, a launch is anticipated in early 2027, though the brand has not officially confirmed a timeline for the market as yet.
