Tata has just unveiled its new Tata Punch EV, and it's not what people expected. This all-electric car is built on a fresh platform called acti.ev, which stands for Advanced Connected Tech-Intelligent Electric Vehicle. It's the first of its kind by Tata and will be the base for their future electric car models. This new platform will support various car body designs and is managed by Tata's Electric Mobility division.
Unlike another architecture named EMA, which Tata shares with JLR and was used for the Tata Avinya, this acti.ev is specifically designed by Tata for its electric cars. The Punch EV is the debut car on this acti.ev platform, and now, people can start booking it by paying a token amount of Rs 21,000 at Tata showrooms, Tata.ev stores, or the company's website. The actual prices for this car will be announced later.
Anand Kulkarni, the Chief Products Officer at Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd., expressed pride in introducing the acti.ev platform. He mentioned that this platform is a significant step in India's growing electric car market.
The acti.ev platform offers various electric powertrain options, including AWD, RWD, and FWD. It has a well-designed battery that allows the car to travel between 300 km and 600 km on a single charge. Moreover, it supports fast charging options, which can add around 100 km of range with just 10 minutes of charging.
This platform also supports advanced features like Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems), Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), and Vehicle-to-Vehicle Charging (V2V) tech. It's 5G ready for fast connectivity and allows for over-the-air software updates.
The acti.ev platform's chassis is sturdy and can accommodate various body styles while meeting safety standards. It offers more cabin space, thanks to a flat floor and an extra storage space in the front (frunk). The lower center of gravity also helps in better driving performance.
In a nutshell, Tata's new Punch EV is based on the acti.ev platform, designed specifically for electric cars. It's feature-rich, supports multiple powertrain options, and promises a good driving range on a single charge. The bookings for this car have opened, and people can secure their orders by paying a booking amount of Rs 21,000. This step marks Tata's significant progress in India's electric car evolution.
