Maruti Suzuki Wagonr Vs Swift Which Small Car Is Perfect Fit For You

Maruti Suzuki WagonR Vs Swift: Which Small Car Is Perfect Fit For You?

Choosing between the Maruti Suzuki WagonR and Swift? The decision boils down to your preferences. The WagonR, with its tall-boy design, offers a spacious interior and practicality, ideal for city driving. On the other hand, the Swift is known for its sporty appeal, performance, and compact design. Consider your priorities—space and utility or a more dynamic driving experience—to find the perfect fit for your needs. Test drives can help solidify your choice.

There are a few reasons why Maruti Suzuki holds the number-one position in India. The WagonR and Swift are two of those reasons. Both of these cars have a rich legacy of years behind them and continue to be the best-sellers in their respective price categories, even after all these years. However, deciding which car to buy between the WagonR and Swift can confuse new and used car buyers since both are very closely priced. Here, we compare all the possible attributes of the WagonR and Swift and tell you which makes more sense if you want to buy one of these cars.

Maruti Suzuki WagonR vs Maruti Suzuki Swift - How are both different?

The Maruti Suzuki WagonR is an entry-level car primarily for first-time owners. However, the Swift from the same stable is for those who want the functionalities of a small car but with an added zing.

WagonR vs Swift - Design

  • In comparison, the WagonR might be a taller car among the two, but the Swift is longer and wider. Due to this, the WagonR offers more headroom, but the Swift aces in legroom and shoulder room.

  • Compared to the boxy stance of the WagonR, the Swift has a more dynamic look, with its curves giving it a more youthful appeal.

  • The WagonR is quite basic-looking in its appeal, with halogen lamps at the front and rear. The Swift feels more new-age with LED projector headlamps, daytime running LEDs, and LED tail lamps.

  • Both cars come with alloy wheels in their top-spec trims. While the WagonR gets 14-inch black alloy wheels, the Swift has more stylish 15-inch machined alloy wheels.

  • Both cars come with the option of dual-tone paint colours in their higher-spec variants.

WagonR vs Swift - Interior

  • Compared to the slightly utilitarian interior of the WagonR, the Swift feels much more contemporary and feature-rich on the inside.

  • If you compare the top-spec trims of both hatchbacks, the Swift advances with additional new-age features like a push-start-stop button, cruise control, a TFT MID, and auto AC.

  • The additional features you get in the Swift over WagonR include driver-seat height adjustment and a reverse camera.

  • Both cars get the same 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto. However, Swift has two additional speakers for the audio system.

  • Apart from more legroom and shoulder room, the Swift has more space for you in its boot compartment.

WagonR vs Swift - Engine and transmission

  • Both WagonR and Swift come with the same 1.2-litre K12C Dualjet petrol engine. The engine claims 90 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque in both cars.

  • The transmission choices of the 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT are also the same in both cars.

  • The WagonR is also available with a smaller choice of the powertrain in the form of a 1.0-litre K10C Dualjet petrol engine, which produces 66.6 PS of power and 89 Nm of torque.

WagonR vs Swift - Ownership costs

  • The entire range of WagonR is priced between Rs 5.53 lakh to Rs 7.29 lakh, whereas for Swift, prices range between Rs 6.00 lakh to Rs 8.84 lakh.

  • Compared to the WagonR's fuel efficiency of 23.56-24.43 kmpl, the Swift manages slightly lower but much appreciable 22.38-22.56 kmpl.

  • While the average maintenance costs of WagonR are between Rs 3,000-5,000, that of the Swift costs Rs 3,500-5,500.

Is the Swift a recommendable option over the WagonR?

Both the WagonR and Swift are great options for first-time car buyers. However, the Swift edges out the WagonR with its more mature styling, larger dimensions, and more involving driving dynamics. All these positives make it equally appealing for even those who are not buying a car for the first time, making it a more mature product in comparison. Its ownership costs are also not that drastically higher when compared to those of the WagonR. However, the Swift is pricier than the WagonR by almost Rs 50,000 -1,00,000. The Swift offers a higher value proposition if you do not have budget constraints.

Both the cars also come with parking sensors, with the Swift having a parking camera to help you drive and park hassle-free. However, for both compact cars in this comparison, Park+ offers a range of facilities to ensure your driving experience is even more convenient.
