In a recent interview with Mint, Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann shared insights into the brand's future strategies, emphasizing a commitment to internal combustion engine (ICE) technology for super sports cars beyond 2030.
Despite the industry's shift towards electrification, Lamborghini aims to leverage hybrids and combustion engines for its high-performance vehicles as long as feasible. The Italian automaker, renowned for its luxury supercars, achieved record-breaking global sales in 2023, totalling 10,112 units.
Notably, Lamborghini's success extended to the Indian market, where it sold 103 cars, attributed to stable taxation policies and a youthful demographic profile. Additionally, increased purchases by non-resident Indians abroad have bolstered sales in India.
Looking ahead to 2024, Winkelmann expressed optimism regarding sales in India, anticipating surpassing the previous year's record. Despite facing temporary delays in deliveries due to the ongoing global shipping crisis, Lamborghini maintains a robust order book.
Addressing concerns about the performance of electric or electrified sports cars, Winkelmann highlighted Lamborghini's hybridization strategy to preserve power while reducing emissions, aligning with government regulations. This approach ensures a balance between performance and environmental sustainability, vital for the luxury sports car manufacturer.
Winkelmann outlined Lamborghini's dual strategy, prioritizing electrification for daily drivable cars while maintaining internal combustion engines for super sports cars. This approach aims to retain the iconic sound and performance associated with Lamborghini vehicles, presenting promising opportunities post-2030.
As Lamborghini continues to innovate and adapt to evolving market trends, its commitment to advancing automotive technology while preserving its signature driving experience remains steadfast.
