The Jetour T2 is headed to India via JSW Motors as a PHEV SUV, in partnership with China's Chery Automobile.
In global markets, Jetour has introduced a Batman-inspired Dark Knight cosmetic kit for the T2 and T1 SUVs, priced at ZAR 20,000.
JSW Motors and Chery Set the Stage for India
The Indian automotive market is on the cusp of a noteworthy new arrival. JSW Motors, operating independently of its existing alliance with MG Motor India, is preparing to launch a range of vehicles in collaboration with Chinese manufacturer Chery Automobile.
The first of these is expected to be the Chery Jetour T2, a sizeable SUV that will carry plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) technology into the mainstream Indian market.
A Gotham-Inspired Look for a Chinese SUV
Before it touches Indian shores, the Jetour T2 has already been making headlines in global markets.
In countries like South Africa, Chery has rolled out a Batman-themed Dark Knight Edition for both the Jetour T2 and the smaller Jetour T1. Rather than offering it as a factory-fitted variant, the company has positioned this as an add-on kit, retailing at ZAR 20,000, which converts to roughly Rs 1.63 lakh at current exchange rates.
What the Dark Knight Kit Includes
The kit is, at its core, an aesthetic overhaul. A matte black finish gives the SUV a stealthy, Batmobile-like character, supported by smoked and blacked-out badges and lettering throughout the bodywork.
Completing the look are matte black alloy wheels that go up to 20 inches in diameter, paired with red-painted brake callipers that add a welcome contrast and a hint of aggression.
Beyond Looks, There Is a Warrior Kit Too
For buyers who want more than just visual drama, Jetour also offers the Dark Warrior kit. This package is a functional upgrade comprising 30 individual components designed to improve the vehicle's off-road capability. It is priced at ZAR 55,000, which is approximately Rs 3.2 lakh, and serves a very different kind of customer from the Dark Knight buyer.
The Numbers Behind the Jetour T2
The T2 is a substantial machine. It measures 4,785 mm in length, 2,006 mm in width, and 1,880 mm in height, sitting on a 2,880 mm wheelbase with 220 mm of ground clearance.
For the Indian market, the PHEV variant is the one expected to arrive. That setup pairs a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a 26.7 kWh battery and two electric motors, producing a combined output of 381 bhp and 610 Nm of torque.
Jetour on the Philosophy of Customisation
Nic Campbell, Vice President of Jetour South Africa, offered context for the brand's growing focus on personalisation. He noted that vehicle customisation today goes well beyond surface-level appearances and is increasingly about allowing owners to reflect their individual personalities through their cars.
He added that Jetour intends to ensure every type of customer finds something to suit their lifestyle, whether they prefer the vehicle in its standard form or wish to modify it extensively.
