First Drive Review Of Skoda Kylaqs Automatic Variant

First Drive Review of Skoda Kylaq’s Automatic Variant.

The Kylaq has been designed using Skoda's new design language. Aside from the grille design's mild similarity to the Kushaq, the Kylaq's styling is quite new. Elements such as the split LED headlights, the shape of the bumper, and the way the bonnet has been treated when it comes to cuts and creases are all entirely newly created in the car giving it a fresh look.

The Skoda Kylaq is a new entry point for Skoda in India and it is a new sub-4 meter SUV designed entirely in India, The Skoda Kylaq starts from 8 lakhs which offers good value to the concerned owners.

Detailed Analysis on Skoda Kylaq

The Skoda Kylaq represents a new entry point for the Skoda Brand in India. It is a product which has been entirely designed in India and the Skoda Kylaq provides good value for the money they take. Lets focus on the design and packaging of the new product.

The car measures 3,995mm in length and features a 2,566 wheelbase and 189m wide ground clearance, The Skoda Kylaq boasts ideal dimensions and clearance to deal with the uneven city roads. In terms of exterior design, the Skoda Kylaq has been designed using Skoda’s new design language. The Grille pattern is similar to Kushaq in a sense but the other elements feel fresh and new.

The new Kylaq provides minimal overhangs at both the front and rear to maximise space efficiency. At the rear, the neatly designed tail lights are worth of grabbing the attention of anyone on the road. Overall, the Kylaq is a good-looking crossover and has got a mature edge to its design, which will undoubtedly hold up well over time.

The Interiors of Skoda Kylaq

The cabin has a positively restrained look, which features a clean design for the dashboard and the finer elements, in a similar manner the 10-inch infotainment screen and the cluster has been neatly integrated.

The climate control in the Skoda Kylaq is provided with a touch sensitive climate control which is not feasible to be used while being on the go. The Kylaq is ergonomically fit, with all the controls falling easily to hand and a driving position that is pretty much spot on. Moreover, the quality of plastics is also remarkable and overall, it is refreshing to see the consistency in fit and finish across the cabin.

Seating comfort is among Kylaq's strong points. The rear seats are surprisingly comfortable. The cabin provides more shoulder room to seat three adults in some comfort, but the way the rear seatback and base are attached and how well the passenger sits is impressive indeed. The under-thigh support is ample, and the recline angle is also ideal. The backseat passengers have plenty of head and knee room.

The most expensive variant of Kylaq offers you LED projector headlights, 17-inch alloy wheels, cruise control, TPMS, auto headlamps, single-pane sunroof, 10-inch infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, rear-view camera, six airbags, and ABS and ESP as standard.

Driving Experience of Kylaq

The Kylaq offers a single-engine option. It’s the conventional 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, TSI petrol engine available with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed torque converter automatic transmission. This injection turbocharged engine produces 115bhp and 178Nm of torque, which are decent figures for the segment. The engine has that typical three-cylinder throw, which is notable only at high revs, and the noise isn’t unpleasant in any way.

The Kylaq’s impressive performance is due to the six-speed torque converter automatic, which is fairly quick and responsive when kept in S mode. Compared to competitors with a DCT gearbox, the downshifts are better disguised and there is no hesitation in stop-and-start traffic at low speeds.

The Kylaq stayed largely flat and surprisingly pleasant over a few rutted, corrugated sections, with the suspension effectively absorbing disturbances.

Is the Skoda Kylaq worth buying?

The best pick worth buying would be the Signature Plus AT variant at Rs. 12.40 lakh, which is loaded and gets you features such as auto climate control, a 10-inch infotainment system with wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, rear-view camera, 60:40 split functionality for the rear seat, auto headlights, and more. This variant looks for the value and provides every possible feature when analysed with the given competitors in the market.
