Bharat Ncap Will Release The List Of First Batch Of Car Crash Test Soon Heres What To Expect

Bharat NCAP will release the list of first batch of car crash test soon, here’s what to expect

Bharat NCAP, the autonomous safety organization, recently teased on its social media platforms about an upcoming announcement of new crash test results. The first report from Bharat NCAP in December 2023 awarded a perfect 5-star safety rating to the Tata Harrier and Tata Safari. The recent social media post hints at the anticipation surrounding the next set of safety ratings, promising insights that prioritize road safety.

While the specific models submitted for crash testing are yet to be disclosed, major car manufacturers like Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, and Mahindra have reportedly sent three models each to Bharat NCAP for evaluation. A recent statement by the Head of Corporate Affairs at Maruti Suzuki India Limited confirmed this development for the company. The new safety ratings are scheduled to be released in June, following the 5-star safety ratings achieved by Tata Motors' twin SUVs in the previous round of testing. The inclusion of the Maruti Swift in the upcoming tests remains uncertain, but there are compelling reasons why it could be a strong contender for evaluation.

The India-specific third-generation Maruti Swift previously underwent crash testing by Global NCAP in December 2022, receiving a disappointing 1-star safety rating for both adult and child occupancy. Subsequently, the hatchback faced criticism, particularly on social media platforms, prompting Maruti Suzuki to address concerns regarding safety standards. The new-generation Swift, built on an updated version of the existing Heartect platform, offers an opportunity for Maruti Suzuki to showcase improved safety features. While the Japanese variant of the Swift attained a commendable 4-star safety rating in Japan NCAP crash tests with a 90 percent score, the Indian model may lack certain safety enhancements.

One key distinction is the absence of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) in the India-spec Swift, contributing to potential differences in safety ratings. The comprehensive testing conducted by Japan NCAP did not explicitly address crucial safety aspects such as the stability of the body shell during a frontal impact crash and the child occupant protection score for the hatchback. Therefore, a Bharat NCAP evaluation of the new-generation Swift will offer valuable insights into Maruti Suzuki's safety initiatives and their commitment to prioritizing car safety standards in the Indian market.
