Kia India is preparing SUV launches across three distinct segments, from sub-4m to premium.
The Syros EV is expected to address the shortcomings that dented demand for the ICE model.
Kia India is building towards a busy launch schedule, with three new SUVs expected to arrive in the Indian market. While no official timelines have been announced, the carmaker is anticipated to showcase each model this year.
The three vehicles span very different segments and price points, suggesting Kia is keen to shore up its presence at both ends of the market.
New-Generation Sonet to Carry Forward Familiar Underpinnings
The next-generation Sonet has already been spotted testing in India on multiple occasions, though heavy camouflage has kept the details well under wraps.
What the test mules did reveal was a boxier silhouette compared to the current model, and speculation points to design influences borrowed from the new Hyundai Venue, with which it shares platform DNA.
The powertrain, however, is not expected to see significant changes. Kia is likely to carry over the existing engine and gearbox combinations into the new generation, keeping things familiar for buyers in the fiercely competitive sub-4m SUV space.
Syros EV Set to Address What Held the Petrol Model Back
The ICE-powered Kia Syros made a strong debut when it first launched, but demand gradually softened. Industry observers attribute this to its polarising rear styling and a rear suspension setup that felt bouncier than buyers preferred.
The electric variant is not expected to change the visual character of the car, but it will introduce EV-specific elements alongside a stiffer suspension tune, which should meaningfully improve the overall ownership experience.
Two Battery Options Expected in the Syros EV
On the mechanical front, the Syros EV is expected to draw its powertrain from the international-spec Hyundai Inster EV.
Two battery options are anticipated: a 42kWh unit producing 95bhp and 147Nm, and a larger 49kWh pack making 113bhp and 147Nm.
Since the Syros EV will sit below the Carens Clavis EV in Kia's lineup, the battery chemistry will remain NMC-based. An eight-year battery warranty is expected to come as standard.
Sorento Hybrid Brings the Most Power in Its Segment
Further up the price ladder, the Kia Sorento's bodyshell has already been spotted on a flatbed in India, confirming that a launch is indeed in the pipeline.
The Sorento targets the premium SUV space around the Rs. 50 lakh mark, competing with the likes of the MG Majestor, Toyota Fortuner, and the Volkswagen-Skoda twins. Where the Sorento really distinguishes itself is in outright power; the hybrid variant produces 261bhp and 350Nm, a notable step above rivals such as the MG Majestor at 213bhp, the Toyota Fortuner at 201bhp, and the Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tayron at 201bhp.
Pure torque figures favour some of those rivals, but on headline power, the Sorento leads the pack by a comfortable margin.
