In recent news coming from Japan, Suzuki in collaboration with Daihstu and Toyota will develop a small, compact, and entry-level sports car for all sports car enthusiasts. This means the Suzuki Cappuccino could be reborn after being dormant for 26 years.

Rebirth of the Suzuki Cappuccino

The original Suzuki Cappuccino, a tiny and charming sports car, was produced from 1991 to 1998. It was known for its small size and lightweight, making it a fun car to drive. t was well-known for being lightweight and compact, which made driving it enjoyable. With a 657cc engine, the original model was mostly sold in Japan and a small number of units were exported to other nations, such as India. The cappuccino is about to resurface after a 26-year hiatus, but with some notable modifications.

New Features and Specifications

The upcoming Suzuki Cappuccino will be a completely new model, distinct from its predecessor. The new Cappuccino will have a more potent 1.3-liter turbo-petrol engine with rear-wheel drive (RWD) in place of the little 657cc engine. The new Toyota Starlet, which will initially only be sold in Japan, is also expected to feature this engine. It's interesting to note that Toyota also offers the rebadged Maruti Baleno Starlet hatchback for sale in South Africa.

Those who prefer to feel the wind in their hair while driving will love the open-top roadster look of the new Cappuccino. Its dimensions will be around 4 meters long by 1.7 meters wide by 1.2 meters tall, with a wheelbase of about 2,480mm. With this size, the new Cappuccino will continue to be small and nimble while keeping the essence of the original design.

Gearbox and Performance

One of the exciting aspects of the new Cappuccino will be the gearbox options. Drivers will have the choice between manual and automatic transmissions, catering to both traditional sports car enthusiasts and those who prefer the convenience of an automatic. This flexibility ensures that the new Cappuccino will appeal to a wide range of drivers.

Collaboration with Toyota and Daihatsu

The collaboration between Suzuki, Toyota, and Daihatsu signifies a strong partnership in developing this new sports car. Each company will have its own version of the model, offering slight variations in design and features, but sharing the same core mechanics. This joint effort aims to bring an affordable yet exciting sports car to the masses, combining the strengths of all three manufacturers.

A Look Back at the Original Cappuccino

It is necessary to consider the original model to comprehend the relevance of the new Cappuccino. Known for its compact size and effective use of space, the original Suzuki Cappuccino belonged to Japan's kei vehicle market. Its lightweight design, which made it incredibly agile and enjoyable to drive, helped it gain popularity. The original Cappuccino was adored for its attractive appearance and captivating driving experience even though it wasn't a performance powerhouse.

Overall, the return of the Suzuki Cappuccino is an exciting step forward for global auto fans. The new Cappuccino promises to introduce a new generation of drivers to the excitement of operating a tiny sports vehicle thanks to its more potent engine, sleeker design, and support from Toyota and Daihatsu. The expectation is growing for what may be a unique vehicle in the sports car industry as we wait for its global appearance by 2027. With its nostalgic appeal combined with contemporary performance and design, the new Cappuccino is sure to win over drivers' hearts once more.
