Mahindras New Scorpio X Pickup A Sneak Peek

Mahindra's New Scorpio X Pickup: A Sneak Peek

Get ready for Mahindra's next big thing – the Scorpio X Pickup! After the buzz around the Thar 5-Door debut in India, Mahindra has trademarked the Scorpio X name, hinting at an exciting addition to their lineup.

Expected to hit the Indian market in mid-2024, the Thar 5-Door is an expansion of the popular Thar 3-Door range, offering more choices for SUV enthusiasts. Now, all eyes are on the potential Scorpio X Pickup, a significant launch that builds on the success of the Thar lineup.

Last Independence Day, Mahindra gave us a glimpse of the future with the Scorpio N-based pickup concept, named the Global Pik Up, in South Africa. The production version is set to launch in 2025, and sightings of a Scorpio N-based pickup test mule in November 2023 suggest that it might carry the Scorpio X name.

Internally known as Z121, the Scorpio X pickup boasts a next-gen ladder frame chassis for enhanced safety. While the concept had a futuristic and rugged appeal, the final production version is expected to strike a balance, maintaining a robust road presence.

Design-wise, the Scorpio X is anticipated to share similarities with the Scorpio N, especially in the front fascia. With a longer wheelbase than the Scorpio N, it promises more interior space. The design originates from the Mahindra India Design Studio (MIDS).

Under the hood, details about the powertrain are still a mystery, but expectations are high for the familiar 2.2-liter mHawk diesel engine. This engine might come with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, ensuring versatility. The Scorpio X pickup is likely to feature a proper four-wheel-drive system for enhanced off-road capabilities.

In the competitive Indian market, the Scorpio N-based pickup will go head-to-head with vehicles like the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross and Toyota Hilux. Although the exact launch date and pricing details are yet to be confirmed, the Scorpio X pickup is already generating excitement. Mahindra's continued efforts to diversify its lineup aim to provide more choices to consumers seeking reliable and capable vehicles.

In summary, Mahindra's upcoming Scorpio X Pickup, with its rugged design, anticipated powerful engine, and off-road capabilities, is poised to make a significant impact on the Indian automotive scene. As enthusiasts eagerly await its launch, Mahindra looks set to deliver yet another impressive addition to its lineup, catering to the varied preferences of Indian consumers. Get ready for the Scorpio X Pickup to carve its place in the hearts of SUV enthusiasts!
