The Toyota Hilux is a robust and reliable pickup truck known for its durability, versatility, and off-road capability, making it a preferred choice for commercial and outdoor use.
It is available in three different variants, Hilux STD, High, and High AT. Furthermore, the transmission system is offered in two types: manual and automatic.
Toyota is planning to bring a more off-road compatible version into the market by the end of this year. It is expected that a new platform will be equipped for wider tracks and sportier behavior.
- Toyota's signature grill with an all-black treatment and an edgy headlamp setup gives a stunning appeal to the vehicle.
- Use of chrome inserts around the grill and inside the headlamps can be found. The overall feel of the vehicle is not of the typical SUV. LED DRLs (Day Time Running Lights) along with projector setup help in better visibility. A skid plate at the front is provided as well.
- The side view may somewhat remind you of the Isuzu D-max pickup truck. The chrome is also used at the door handles, rearview mirrors, and rear side guards. A Hilux branding below the ORVMs looks classy. For more convenience, side steps are provided on both sides. Side blinkers are mounted on the ORVMs. Plastic cladding is present on both wheel arcs (optional add-on).
- The rear looks quite plain and chrome is used here too on the middle handle of the cab. The tail lamps are pretty much in Toyota style and at the top-right, you'll find the Hilux branding again. No skid plate is offered at the rear, though.
- You get an all-black interior with subtle chrome elements across the dash like on the steering, around the gearbox nob, and the A/C vents, etc. Some metallic accents can also be found. The touch of leather upholstery adds to the premiums of this vehicle.
- Coming to the infotainment section, it has an 8-inch touchscreen with all the modern tech features and controls. It also supports the Andriod Auto and Apple CarPlay connected technologies. A 6-speaker system is sufficient to enjoy every beat of the music. A small MID (Multi Information display) is integrated into the instrument cluster to ease the driver with all the information. The quality of the center console might disappoint some customers as very basic plastic is used.
- Hilux comes with plenty of storage space. It has two cup holders at the front, side spaces in the doors, a tiny space under the center armrest, one on the center console, and a handy cooled glove box.
- The Hilux is equipped with a 7-airbag setup, and features like ABS, Brake Assist, Central locking, child safety lock, anti-theft alarm, auto-dimming ORVMs, front seat-belt warning, etc.
- It also comes with driver assistance tech like Vehicle Stability Control (ESC), Traction control, electronic differential lock, ISOFIX child seat mounts, Hill assist, etc. The current Hilux has received a 3-star rating in the EURO NCAP crash test which is a pretty decent score.
- However, the ANCAP ratings for the 2019 models and below are known to be 4-star.
- Max Power: Producing roughly 201.15 Bhp at 3000-3400 RPM
- Max Torque: It generates a torque of 500 nm at about 1600-2800 RPM
It has a top speed of 185 Km/h (approx.) which is quite impressive for such a heavy vehicle. Also, it can go 0-100 Km/h in about 11-12 secs, showing good average acceleration capability.
But what matters the most is the driving experience. Despite its prominent height and weight, you wouldn't feel so much body roll as the Hilux is quite stable while doing triple-digit speeds.
The 265/60 R18 (18-inch) tires ensure good grip and traceability on the road. Due to its 4WD (4-wheel drive) support, it can do Off-road with quite ease. Regular bumps and rough patches are also handled carefully by this vehicle.
