1. Tata Nexon Pure Plus (PS)
The Nexon takes first place because it pairs a panoramic roof with a five-star result for the exact trim at the lowest price among the panoramic-roof cars here. It costs Rs 9.72 lakh ex-showroom, holds 382 litres in the boot, and scores 29.41/32 for adult protection and 43.83/49 for child protection. The cheaper Smart Plus (S) at Rs 8.52 lakh has a single-pane roof, so the panoramic panel adds Rs 1.20 lakh to the bill.
The Pure Plus (PS) petrol manual is rated at 15.74 kmpl, the lowest claim here, while other Nexon petrol manuals claim 17.44 kmpl.
Tata added this trim to the rating in Revision 1 in May 2026, so it is covered even though it was not the car originally crashed.
Pick it for the most glass per rupee. Accept the weakest lab mileage.
2. Hyundai Venue HX 5
At Rs 9.56 lakh, the Venue has the lowest recommended-trim price here, and that buys a single-pane smart electric roof and a 375-litre boot. Its safety scores are second only to the Seltos at 31.15/32 for adults and 44.46/49 for children.
The 1.2-litre petrol makes 82 bhp and 114.7 Nm of torque through a five-speed manual, the lowest output in this group, making the Venue a city car first. Its 18.05 kmpl ARAI figure is 2.31 kmpl higher than the Nexon's claim.
Bharat NCAP tested the HX2 diesel manual and HX10 diesel automatic, then extended the rating to the HX5 1.2 petrol manual. Check that extension on the rating sheet before booking.
Pick it if the Rs 10 lakh ex-showroom is a hard ceiling, and accept the smaller glass area and modest engine.
3. Maruti Suzuki Brezza ZXi turbo
At Rs 9.95 lakh, just Rs 39,000 more than the Venue, the Brezza gets a one-touch electric sunroof, a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol with 109 bhp and 170 Nm, and an ARAI claim of 19.96 kmpl. That is only 0.14 kmpl behind the XUV 3XO, which costs Rs 2.25 lakh more.
The boot holds 328 litres, the smallest here. If running costs matter more than purchase price, the ZXi 1.5 manual is another option at Rs 10.55 lakh with a claimed 20.81 kmpl.
Bharat NCAP crashed the ZXi+ 1.5 automatic and extended the result to the ZXi 1.0 turbo manual. Pick it for lower fuel bills, and accept the tight boot.
4. Mahindra XUV 3XO AX7
At Rs 12.20 lakh, the AX7 brings a voice-controlled panoramic roof, a 2,600 mm wheelbase for better rear legroom, and a 364-litre boot. It also posts the highest ARAI figure here at 20.1 kmpl from a 129 bhp 1.2-litre turbo-petrol (TGDi) manual.
Its 29.36/32 adult score is the lowest of the five, 0.05 points behind the Nexon and 2.34 behind the Seltos, though still well inside five-star territory.
The cheaper roof trim is the REVX M (O) at Rs 9.09 lakh, which gets a single-pane unit. The Rs 3.11 lakh jump buys the panoramic panel and the higher trim equipment. Pick it for rear-seat space and stronger pulling power, and accept the narrowest safety margin in this group.
5. Kia Seltos HTK(O)
At Rs 14.52 lakh ex-showroom, Rs 48,000 below our price cap, the Seltos is the only car here with a dual-pane panoramic roof. The cabin is a class larger, backed by a 2,690 mm wheelbase, a 447-litre boot, and the highest scores in the group at 31.70/32 for adults and 45.00/49 for children.
The fineprint
Two cars narrowly missed the list. The Skoda Kylaq Prestige at Rs 11.85 lakh scores 30.88/32 for adults and 45.00/49 for children, claims 19.31 kmpl, and holds 360 litres in the boot. Its sunroof is a single-pane anti-pinch electric unit rather than a panoramic one, so it missed out on roof size for the money, not safety.
The Tata Punch Accomplished Plus (S) at Rs 9.17 lakh gets a single-pane voice-controlled roof, a 30.58/32 adult score, and a 366-litre boot.
Every score in the top five comes from a rating extended to that trim, not from crashing that exact variant. Read the Bharat NCAP variant list for the specific car in front of you.
