Last Week In Cars Launches Global Reveals And Crash Test

Last Week in Cars (Apr 14–19): New Launches, Global Reveals & Crash Test Milestones

Last week was packed with action for Indian car enthusiasts—from the launch of the 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line and Skoda Kodiaq to Honda Elevate scoring big in JNCAP crash tests. Kia EV3 bagged the World Car of the Year award, while Audi A6 got a global reveal. Plus, the Golf GTI’s India debut was finally confirmed.

It has been quite a week for Indian car enthusiasts, as we watched the launch of two flagship updated SUVs and the launch timeline of a hot hatch. Among other noteworthy updates were an India-made SUV attaining full 5 stars in the Japanese NCAP alongside a popular sub-4m sedan debuting in export markets.

Here is a brisk recap of all the newsy events that unfolded in that week.

2025 Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line Launched

The week started with the release of the Tiguan R-Line, the very first R-Line for Indian shores, by Volkswagen. The Tiguan R-Line by the German car manufacturer is put up for sale as a completely-built unit (CBU) and will be delivered from April 28, 2025.

Launch Timeline Confirmed For The Volkswagen Golf GTI

Alongside new launches, Volkswagen also confirmed the launch timeline for the Golf GTI. The second performance hatch by the car maker will see an extremely limited run on our shores.

On top of that, the Indian Golf GTI will only be available in four exterior shades, unlike the seven shades offered by the international model.

2025 Skoda Kodiaq Launched

Skoda last week brought the Kodiaq's latest generation to our shores. It is available in two variants with a long list of upgrades, including tech-loaded interiors, at a significant premium to the old model.

Honda Elevate Scores 5 Stars In JNCAP

The made-in-India Honda Elevate, called WR-V in Japan, has recently received a full 5-star rating in crash tests by the Japanese NCAP. Passing the stricter rules set by the JNCAP test, we expect Honda Elevate would also score a full 5 stars in BNCAP.

Kia EV3 Wins World Car Of The Year 2025

The Kia EV3 takes home the World Car Of The Year (WCOTY) 2025 award. It is the second consecutive win for the Korean carmaker, with last year's trophy going to the EV9. With the BMW X3 and Hyundai Inster among its 52 competitors, the EV3 beat them all to win the coveted title.

Global Reveal Of The Audi A6

Last week saw the global reveal of the Audi A6 sedan in its new generation. Besides triggers of a major generation change, the whole update includes completely new design changes and a multitude of features that seek to position the sedan as a more modern and current offering.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire Launched In the Philippines

A bunch of upgrades for the powertrain, which we don't get here, have been presented to the Philippines with the launch of the Maruti Suzuki Dzire there. But it entirely misses out on a lot of creature comfort bits when compared to the Indian model.

Colour Options For MG M9

The MG recently unveiled its flagship EV model M9 in India during the Auto Expo 2025, with colour options for the electric MPV being revealed recently, suggesting an imminent launch in India. The MPV for the Indian market will come in three colour options against five for the international market.
