Maruti Suzuki achieves a historic all-time production record of 23.4 lakh units in FY2025-26, becoming the only Indian OEM to reach this scale in a single financial year.
The company has announced plans to nearly double its manufacturing capacity to 40 lakh units annually.
Maruti Suzuki has done something no other Indian carmaker has managed before. In the financial year 2025-26, the company produced over 23.4 lakh passenger vehicles, marking its highest-ever annual production figure. This achievement does not merely represent a domestic record; it also places Maruti Suzuki at the top of Suzuki Motor Corporation's global production network, making its Indian facilities the most productive within the parent company's worldwide operations.
Five Models That Crossed the 2 Lakh Production Mark
At the heart of this record performance lies a portfolio that knows exactly what its customers want. Five models, namely the Dzire, Fronx, Swift, Ertiga and Baleno, each crossed the 2 lakh unit production threshold during the year.
These are not niche products aimed at a select audience; they span the full breadth of the market, from compact sedans and premium hatchbacks to SUVs and family MPVs. The sheer width of this volume underlines Maruti's ability to stay relevant and dominant across multiple segments at the same time.
What the Company's Leadership Had to Say
Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Maruti Suzuki India, attributed the achievement to the collective strength of the company's ecosystem. He pointed to the long-standing support of employees, suppliers and dealer partners as foundational to reaching this scale. He also stated that favourable policy conditions and improving market sentiment played a meaningful role in driving the sustained demand that makes such production levels possible.
Maruti's Expansion Blueprint Points to 40 Lakh Units
If FY26 was impressive, Maruti Suzuki is already laying the groundwork for something far bigger. The company has set its sights on reaching an annual production capacity of around 40 lakh units.
Currently, Maruti operates four manufacturing facilities spread across Gurugram, Manesar and Kharkhoda in Haryana, as well as Hansalpur in Gujarat, which together offer an installed capacity of approximately 24 lakh units per year.
A New Gujarat Plant Forms Part of the Long-Term Growth Strategy
To bridge the gap between its current capacity and future targets, Maruti Suzuki has identified land at the Khoraj Industrial Estate in Sanand, Gujarat, for a new manufacturing plant.
Once fully operational, this facility alone is expected to contribute 10 lakh units to the company's annual production capacity, forming a cornerstone of its expansion roadmap.
17 Models, 650-Plus Variants and a Growing Export Ambition
Maruti Suzuki currently manufactures 17 models offered in over 650 variants, catering to both domestic buyers and export markets. As India's ambitions as a global automotive manufacturing hub continue to strengthen, exports are expected to play an increasingly significant role in the company's overall volumes.
With a historic production year already in the books, a deep and popular model range, and a clear capacity growth plan on the table, Maruti Suzuki is not simply holding its ground but actively preparing for a significantly larger future.
