JSW MG Motor India has revealed its sales data for July 2024, reporting the dispatch of 4572 units. Notably, over 35 percent of these sales are credited to the brand's new energy vehicles (NEVs), showcasing the growing acceptance of electric and hybrid vehicles among Indian consumers.
The current lineup in the Indian market includes popular models such as the MG Hector, MG Astor, and MG Gloster. The NEV segment is represented by the MG ZS EV and MG Comet EV. To further boost NEV sales, the brand plans to launch the new Comet EV, touted as India's first intelligent CUV (crossover utility vehicle), in August.
Expected to be marketed as the Windsor EV in India, this vehicle is known internationally as the Wuling Cloud EV. It has been spotted testing on Indian roads, though specific details remain undisclosed. Internationally, the Wuling Cloud EV is offered with two battery options: a 37.9kWh pack with a 360km range and a 50.6kWh pack with a 460km range. It features a front-axle-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor generating 134hp, though it is unclear which variant will be available in India.
Upon its launch, the Windsor EV will compete with models like the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400. It is expected to be priced under ₹20 lakh, making it a more affordable option within the NEV segment, likely positioned below the MG ZS EV in the Indian market.
