The MG Astro is one of the latest MG cars, known for its futuristic design and advanced features. The Astor EX misses a few safety features compared to the regular versions. These include an electronic stability program, traction control, hill descent control and hill start assist.
In addition, the Sharp EX doesn't get lane change assist, blind spot detection, and rear cross-traffic alert. If you can live without these noteworthy safety features, these EX variants make good sense with their lesser asking price. However, we recommend you stick to the non-EX variants, as these safety features are worth their premium.
With these changes, the MG Astor is now available in nine broad variants:

- Savvy
While the petrol-manual combination isn't available in Savvy, the petrol-automatic version doesn't get Style and all EX variants. Meanwhile, the turbo-petrol version can be availed only in the Savvy variant, with Sangria Red upholstery as standard. The Sharp and Savvy variants powered by the 1.5-litre petrol engine are available with two upholstery combinations - Ivory and Sangria Red.
- At the front, the Astor welcomes you with its hexagonal bold celestial grille having smooth and rounded edges. The SUV gets full-LED Hawkeye headlamps, which come integrated with boomerang-shaped daytime running LEDs. The front bumper has dedicated gloss-black housings for fog lamps. It also has a central air dam with a hexagonal mesh design and radar for ADAS features.
- The MG Astor has a crossover-like stance for its side profile and gets machined alloy wheels in its higher-spec variants. While the window beltline and door handles have chrome garnish, the wheel arches and lower portions of door panels get black cladding over them.
- At the back, the Astor features LED inserts for the tail lamps, gloss black surrounds for reflectors and chrome-accentuated faux dual exhaust ports.
The turbo-petrol Savvy variant has a few distinguishing elements, such as turbine-inspired machined alloys and red brake callipers. It also gets a gloss black finish for the headlamp highlights, front and rear skid plates, door garnish and outside rearview mirrors. The Astor should impress you if you love the crossover-like styling over traditional upright ones.
- The cabin of the MG Astor feels new-age with the 8.9cm (7-inch) fully-digital instrument console and a 25.7cm (10.1-inch) HD touchscreen infotainment system. Equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, this infotainment unit is a window to a host of i-SMART-connected car features.
- At the top of the dashboard, Astor has a personal AI assistant in the form of a talking robot. This unique robot answers questions using Wikipedia content, reads jokes and local and global news and operates various in-car functions through voice commands.
- The AI assistant also features enhanced chit-chat interaction and displays interactive emojis. These features can keep you, and others hooked without getting distracted, even while driving.
- The cabin of the Astor is also equipped with more modern features like a powered driver's seat and a panoramic sunroof. However, the absence of modern features like ventilated front seats and wireless chargers can disappoint you.
- It is the first SUV in its category to offer Level 2 ADAS, which includes features like adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane departure prevention, and lane keep assist.
- The list also includes a speed assist system, intelligent headlamp control, blind spot detection, lane change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking.
- Other safety features which you can find in the MG Astor are six airbags, ABS with EBD, cornering brake control, ESP, traction control, hill hold control and hill descent control. More features like reverse parking sensors, 360-degree parking cameras, tyre pressure monitoring systems and electric parking brakes are also there.
However, if you crave more performance, the 1.3-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine is the worthier option. It produces 140 PS of power and 220 Nm of torque. These figures make it a stronger performer over the 1.5-litre petrol engine. However, they are not segment-leading figures when you compare them with the SUVs with which it competes.
