The 2026 Volkswagen Taigun facelift arrives with a sharper design.
Hyundai launched two new special editions, the Creta Summer Edition and the Grand i10 Nios Vibe Edition.
MG's flagship Majestor SUV earned a Guinness World Record by towing a train weighing over 400 tonnes.
It was not the most packed week on the calendar, but it was certainly a meaningful one. Between Volkswagen's much-anticipated mid-cycle update and a pair of thoughtfully crafted Hyundai editions, there was plenty for Indian car buyers to look forward to.
Add to that an extraordinary Guinness achievement and a spy shot that suggests even more updates are on the way, and the week shapes up as one worth remembering.
Volkswagen Taigun Facelift Makes Its Debut
Volkswagen India officially took the wraps off the updated Taigun on April 09, 2026, and the compact SUV arrives looking noticeably sharper than its predecessor.
Up front, the SUV gets sleeker LED headlamps alongside revised tail lamps, new alloy wheel designs, and illuminated logos that give it a more premium presence after dark. Step inside and you will find a new instrument cluster, an updated infotainment interface, a larger sunroof, and a powered driver's seat.
On the mechanical front, the familiar 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine now gains an eight-speed automatic gearbox as an option, which should make the Taigun a considerably smoother proposition in city traffic. Official prices are expected to be announced shortly.
Hyundai Doubles Down with Two Special Editions
Creta Summer Edition Brings More Features to the Masses
Hyundai chose the season aptly to introduce the Creta Summer Edition, which is based on the popular SUV's lower and mid-spec variants.
Prices for this edition range from Rs 12.06 lakh to Rs 17.89 lakh (ex-showroom), representing a premium of up to Rs 58,000 over the standard trims. The additions are genuinely useful ones, including a digital instrument cluster, a dashcam, and enhanced safety technology, making it easier for buyers to access features that were previously reserved for higher-spec models.
Grand i10 Nios Gets the Vibe Treatment
Hyundai also freshened up the Grand i10 Nios with the new Vibe Edition, which is based on the Sportz and Sportz(O) trims.
Prices start at Rs 7.09 lakh (ex-showroom). Beyond the cosmetic additions of black alloy wheels and red interior inserts, the Vibe Edition introduces a segment-first dashcam and a new matte exterior colour option. The 1.2-litre petrol engine carries over, available with both manual and AMT gearbox choices.
MG Majestor Sets a Guinness World Record Ahead of Launch
Before a single price tag had been revealed, the MG Majestor found itself in the record books. The upcoming flagship SUV from MG successfully towed a train weighing over 400 tonnes, earning the brand a Guinness World Record. It is a bold statement of intent ahead of a launch that is expected in the coming weeks, with prices estimated in the Rs 39.50 lakh to Rs 43.25 lakh bracket.
Volkswagen Virtus Facelift Spotted Testing
Rounding off the week's news was the first sighting of the Volkswagen Virtus facelift on test. No official details have been shared as yet, but the updated sedan is widely expected to carry over the existing 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre TSI petrol engines while receiving revised styling and interior improvements.
Given that the Taigun facelift has already been revealed, the Virtus update appears to be close behind.
What to Expect in the Week Ahead
The spotlight now shifts to VinFast, the Vietnamese carmaker with growing ambitions in India, which is set to introduce the VF MPV 7 on April 15. The all-electric MPV is expected to be priced around Rs 20 lakh and will compete against the likes of the Kia Carens Clavis EV and the BYD Atto 3.
