The Mahindra Thar has received its second price hike in three months, with increases of up to Rs. 43,500 across most variants effective April 06, 2026.
Only the entry-level AXT 2WD 1.5 Diesel MT remains untouched, continuing to start at Rs. 9.99 lakh ex-showroom.
If you have been sitting on the fence about buying a Mahindra Thar, this latest development might just nudge you into making a decision sooner rather than later.
Mahindra has confirmed a fresh round of price increases across its popular lifestyle SUV range, effective 6th April 2026. The hike, which Mahindra had pre-announced as being up to 2.5 per cent, sees most variants of the Thar becoming noticeably more expensive.
What makes this particularly noteworthy is that this is the second time in just three months that the Thar has seen a price revision. The previous hike, which came in January 2026, added Rs. 20,000 to the sticker price.
Variant-Wise Price Increases Across the Thar Range
Diesel Automatic and Petrol Automatic Top the Increase Chart
The steepest increase falls on the LXT 4WD 2.2 Diesel AT, which has gone up by Rs. 43,500, the largest jump in the current revision. Following close behind is the LXT 4WD 2.0 Petrol AT, which now costs Rs. 41,500 more than before. These automatic variants have historically attracted a premium, and this revision only widens that gap further.
Manual Variants Also See Considerable Increases
The manual transmission models have not been spared either. The LXT 4WD 2.2 Diesel MT has gone up by Rs. 39,500, while the LXT 4WD 2.0 Petrol MT commands an additional Rs. 37,500.
On the more accessible end of the spectrum, both the LXT 2WD 1.5 Diesel MT and one other LXT 4WD 2.0 Petrol MT variant have each seen a uniform increase of Rs. 30,500.
One Variant Holds Its Ground
Amidst all the price movement, there is one piece of relatively good news for budget-conscious buyers. The entry-level AXT 2WD 1.5 Diesel MT remains unchanged at Rs. 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom), keeping the Thar's starting price intact for now. It is a small but meaningful gesture, ensuring that the nameplate remains accessible at its base tier despite the broader upward push across the range.
What This Means for Prospective Thar Buyers
Two price hikes within a quarter is a pattern worth paying attention to. The cumulative effect on certain variants is now quite substantial. Buyers eyeing the top diesel automatic trim, for instance, are now looking at a combined increase of over Rs. 63,000 compared to prices from just three months ago.
For a lifestyle SUV that continues to command strong demand, Mahindra clearly has the confidence to pass on costs without significantly denting buyer interest. Whether this momentum holds through 2026 remains to be seen, but for now, the Thar continues to occupy a category largely of its own making.
