- Hyundai India's domestic sales rose 9.07% year-on-year in May 2026, reaching 47,837 units, despite a month-on-month dip.
- Two new car launches are confirmed for FY27, including a sub-4m electric SUV slated to arrive before Diwali 2026.
Hyundai Motor India Limited closed May 2026 on a positive note, reporting domestic wholesale figures of 47,837 units. That represents a year-on-year growth of 9.07% over the 43,861 units retailed in May 2025, adding 3,976 units to the tally. It is a number that reflects sustained customer demand for Hyundai's product range, particularly within the SUV segment.
When exports of 13,300 units are factored in, Hyundai's total sales for the month stood at 61,137 units, a 4.15% improvement over the 58,701 units recorded in May 2025.
Hyundai India Month-on-Month and Year-on-Year Sales Comparison (May 2026)
| Period | Units Sold | Comparison | Difference | Growth |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| May 2026 | 47,837 | May 2025 (YoY) | +3,976 | +9.07% |
| May 2025 | 43,861 | April 2026 (MoM) | -4,065 | -7.83% |
| April 2026 | 51,902 | — | — | — |
MoM Figures Show a Seasonal Correction
On a sequential basis, however, the picture tells a slightly different story. Domestic sales fell 7.83% compared to April 2026, when the company had dispatched 51,902 units. The reduction of around 4,065 units is consistent with broader industry behaviour, as manufacturers typically scale back dispatches after periods of elevated demand tied to festive cycles and financial year-end activity.
Exports also came under pressure, declining 10.38% year-on-year from 14,840 units in May 2025 to 13,300 units last month. This softness in outbound shipments kept overall growth in check, even as the domestic market performed well.

A Promising Start to the New Financial Year
The April-May 2026 period paints a decidedly encouraging picture for FY27. Hyundai's cumulative domestic sales for the first two months of the financial year reached 99,739 units, reflecting 13% growth over the 88,235 units sold during the corresponding period of FY26. That trajectory suggests strong underlying demand heading into the remainder of the year.
Tarun Garg, MD and CEO of Hyundai Motor India Limited, noted that the company has carried its momentum into May 2026, referencing the 9.1% domestic growth and 4.1% total sales growth for the month. The company's SUV-led portfolio, anchored by models such as the Creta, Venue, Exter, Alcazar, and Tucson, continues to be the primary growth driver.
New Launches Set to Strengthen Hyundai's Lineup
Looking ahead, Hyundai has confirmed two new car launches for FY27. The first is a sub-4-metre electric SUV, which is expected to arrive ahead of Diwali 2026. The second is a mid-size SUV, likely based on the Bayon platform and positioned below the Creta in the lineup, with a launch expected in early 2027.
Additionally, a new-generation Creta has been spotted testing and is anticipated to debut in the coming months, further reinforcing Hyundai's product offensive in one of its most important global markets.
