Get Huge Savings on Your Next Purchase by Trading in Your Old Car!

Scrapping old cars has always been an innovative option but now it could also be a beneficial one. As many as 21 Indian states and union territories have announced significant incentives for automobile buyers who choose to discard their old vehicles, in a significant step to speed up the process of doing away with cars.

By purchasing a new personal vehicle after selling their old one, clients can take advantage of a discount of up to 25% on the motor vehicle price or road tax. There is a 15% discount for commercial vehicles.

Incentives Across India

Several states, including Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Punjab, and Kerala, have declared these concessions. This occurs at the same time that the federal government has mandated that states encourage the destruction of outdated and unusable automobiles.

Discounts on Road Tax

According to a report, 17 states and union territories are offering a 15% road tax concession when registering commercial or transport vehicles after scrapping old ones.

So far, some 70,000 old cars have been willingly scrapped. However, a large number of these cars belonged to federal or state governments. The only state or union territory where gasoline and diesel cars that are more than ten or fifteen years old, respectively, automatically lose their registration and must be scrapped in Delhi.

Twelve states offer a road tax rebate of twenty-five percent on private vehicles. In Uttarakhand, the reduction is 25% or Rs 50,000, whichever is less, while in Haryana, it is 10% or the lower of 50% of the scrap value. Karnataka offers a set road tax rebate of Rs 50,000 for new private automobiles priced above Rs 20 lakh, which is based on the price of the vehicle. A 25% discount is available at Puducherry, or Rs 11,000, whichever is less.

Scrappage Centers and Fitness Checks

As many as 37 registered scrapping centers, or RVSFs, have been operationalized since the Center declared it mandatory, according to officials from the Road Transport Ministry who were quoted by the Times of India. There are currently 52 such centers operating throughout 16 states and Union Territories, Regarding vehicle fitness tests.

The scrappage policy is expected to help the struggling automobile sector in India. As old vehicles are phased out, there will be a demand for new vehicles. To get more individuals to get rid of their outdated, environmentally harmful cars, the government is also thinking about offering extra incentives. The Prime Minister's Office will approve the final policy, which is presently being discussed by the Road Transport Ministry.

The new administration, which assumes power following the next general elections, is anticipated to implement the revised scrappage policy with improved rewards. With this action, the government hopes to greatly increase the pace at which older cars are being replaced with newer, greener models.
