In another important move that will widen the prospects of buddy reforms in India, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has indicated that the center can give the entire technical assistance to those states that may want to adopt the newly impacted Rs 3000 FASTtag Annual Pass on state highways and expressways.
In a reply to the questions asked by the MPs Utkarsh Verma and Hanuman Beniwal in the Lok Sabha, Gadkari said that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) will support states in rolling out such systems on their corresponding sections of roads.
Now, with FASTag Annual Pass, which will become effective as of August 15, 2025, the facility is available only on National Highways (NH) and National Expressways (NE). It makes the owner of the car use the toll-free up to 200 times or use the system with one year's validity at once and have Rs 3000 as the cost of the one-time payment.
Eligibility and Benefits
In order to take the benefit of the pass, a vehicle should possess a valid and active FASTag. The aim of the facility is to facilitate the upcoming toll payment, cut down on the queue period, as well as to eliminate contention at the payment.
In the case of commercial vehicles, Gadkari also added that provisions of monthly passes and district-level discounts are also maintained separately.

Why It Matters
The pass has been termed revolutionary by commuters who use the highway regularly and save tolls, mainly the people who live near toll plazas or travel long distances regularly. It also responds to decades-long complaints regarding toll plazas located within a 60 km radius by ensuring that a one-time payment is made as an alternative to multiple deductions.
Gadkari called the move a transformational leg towards easy and equitable toll travel between state or regional highway horizons, and it can be extended to other areas.
