MG Motor India reported retail sales of 4,572 units in July 2024, down from 5,012 units in the same month last year. This marks a decrease of 8.7 percent year-on-year (YoY). Of the total units sold during July, MG's two electric vehicles – the Comet and the ZS EV – accounted for more than 1,500 units, highlighting strong customer acceptance of new energy vehicles (NEVs).
MG Motor India, in collaboration with the JSW Group, is working towards introducing its third electric vehicle to the Indian market – the MG Windsor EV. The Windsor EV, a crossover sold as the Wuling Cloud EV in the Indonesian market, offers two battery options in the global market: 37.9kWh and 50.6kWh. These batteries power a 134bhp, front-axle-mounted electric motor. The smaller battery yields a claimed range of 360km, while the larger one offers a 460km range. It remains to be seen which versions will be available in India.
While the official launch date is still under wraps, the MG Windsor will come equipped with the MG App Store built into its infotainment system. This will offer in-car gaming, entertainment, and learning, along with a 'Hello Jio' voice assistant system supporting multiple Indian languages, including English, Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, and Tamil. The Windsor is also confirmed to feature home-to-car functionality.
The MG-Jio Innovative Connectivity Platform (MG-Jio ICP), which includes the MG App Store, will debut in the Windsor EV. MG also launched a new charging app called 'eHUB' as part of its ‘DriEV Bharat’ initiative. This app is a one-stop solution for public EV charging, aiming to streamline locating, reserving, and paying for charging stations. The app is available for download on Google Play and the Apple App Store. Other electric vehicle-based innovations introduced at the event include Project REVIVE and EVPEDIA.
The Windsor EV will be the first MG product to feature these innovations at launch. The price is expected to fall between Rs 15 and Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom).
