The state of Maharashtra(Mh) is very populous and prosperous in India. The state's capital, Mumbai, is India's financial hub. Naturally, millions of people have their vehicles in such an urbanized and industrial state. Where there are vehicles, there is the Regional Transport Office(RTO). There are 50 RTO Maharashtra in different districts and cities, and the Commissioner of Maharashtra transport heads them.

The RTO Maharashtra is an arm of the government responsible for enforcing the rules and provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. For instance, if you purchase a vehicle, the dealer will provide you with a temporary registration. You must apply for permanent registration at the RTO Maharashtra within seven days. Your presence will be required at the RTO for this process, and you will have to submit documents like address proof and vehicle details.

All the Maharashtra RTOs can be accessed through Mh's government site very conveniently.

Major functions of RTO are-

  • Registration of all motor vehicles
  • Levy and collection of motor vehicle tax
  • Issuing Licenses(Passenger and Freight) for such vehicles to ply on the road.
  • Driving tests
  • Issuing Learner's and Permanent Driver's License.
  • Checking the fitness of vehicles.

The RTO fulfils many more roles, and you can visit this site to gain more information.

mParivahan

One of the most difficult tasks of the Maharashtra transport and RTOs is maintaining a record of all vehicles in the state, which requires a lot of resources and involves tons of paperwork.

To simplify such resource-intensive work, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has introduced mParivahan. This app and site is designed to digitize and streamline most vehicle-related work. MoRTH has designed this app to ensure interoperability and accuracy of information across the country. Their main objectives are to provide better and timely services and reduce the burden on the RTOs and citizens. Among other important services, it provides quick access to the vehicle and Driving License information to various departments.

eChallan

eChallan is a comprehensive mobile-based app for issuing a challan. It gets rid of paperwork and a lot of back-end resource-intensive tasks in the Mh transport and RTOs.

If you live in a remote village or town and receive a challan, you need to visit the RTO in the district. This involves a lot of time and possible harassment by middlemen at the RTO. Digitization of many services of the RTO has solved a lot of these issues.

When you violate a traffic rule, a traffic policeman will issue an E-challan. The department will send the E-challan as a message to your mobile and a physical copy to your address. Cameras in many parts of the city ensure that there is no harassment of drivers and only genuine violators are punished. You can pay the fine associated with the challan by visiting the site mParivahan or their app.

Mobile apps

Park+ is an application for vehicle owners that addresses their daily discomforts. It is easier and more interactive with plenty of other services like booking parking slots and applying and renewing FASTag.

eChallan system has made it possible for citizens to pay anytime and anywhere.

If you wish to purchase a used car, you can enter the registration number of the car on the mParivahan app. You will be shown if there are challans or fines pending against the car. You can also check if all the documents are genuine and valid.

These are only a few of the useful services provided by apps like mParivahan and Park+. They have relieved a lot of burden on citizens, especially in rural areas.

What is the best insurance policy for my car?

There are two kinds of vehicle insurance policies -

  • Third-party insurance- This is a mandatory requirement for all vehicles on the road. It covers damages to any vehicle or driver with whom you have an accident.
  • Comprehensive policy- This is the best policy. It provides cover against any damage to a third party and to you or your vehicle.

If you own a vehicle, it is vital to understand how RTOs work so that you do not face any trouble while on the road. Now since you understand how useful apps like mParivahan and Park+ are, you can start using them to save time and unnecessary hassles at the RTOs.
