After several teasers and covert sightings, the Volkswagen Tera, the company's next entry-level SUV, made its premiere in Brazil. During its Rio de Janeiro Carnival exposition, Volkswagen recently presented the Tera's exterior and interior design; the car's powertrain and technical specifications are still unknown. The new SUV will be manufactured in Brazil; an Indian launch is not currently planned.
Exterior Design
The Tera appears to be taking design inspiration from the bigger Tiguan SUV. It features a highly noticeable shoulder line with muscular fenders, a two-part LED DRL signature inside the narrow headlights, and a contrasting black finish for the grille and air intakes at the margins of the bumper.
The roof and A- and B-pillars are finished in contrasting black in profile, and a contrasting black trim connects the stubby taillights at the back. Additionally, gloss black garnishes are added to the bumpers.
Interiors and Features of Volkswagen Tera
The Tera's interior resembles that of any contemporary, small VW vehicle. For example, the steering wheel, center console, and touch-based HVAC panel resemble those of the India-spec Taigun; however, the Tera has a free-standing device in place of a dashboard-integrated touchscreen.
The Tera also has an ADAS package, wireless charging, ambient lighting, a 10-inch digital instrument display, and connected vehicle capabilities.
Engine and performance details of Tera
The MQB A0 platform, which is not to be confused with the MQB A0 IN platform, and is exclusive to India, is the foundation for the Volkswagen Tera. The Tera is probably going to be a little over 4 meters long because the former also supports the most recent generation of Polo overseas.
Additionally, the Tera is anticipated to share the Polo's 1.0-liter TSI petrol and flex-fuel engine options in Brazil, even though Volkswagen has not officially disclosed the engine lineup.
Conclusion
The Volkswagen Tera marks an exciting addition to the brand’s global SUV lineup, particularly for the Brazilian market. With a design inspired by its larger siblings and a well-equipped interior, the Tera aims to be a strong contender in the entry-level SUV segment. While its engine and performance details are yet to be officially revealed, it is expected to borrow powertrain options from the latest Polo. However, for now, an Indian launch is not on the horizon. Enthusiasts will have to wait and see if Volkswagen considers introducing the Tera in other markets in the future.
