Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) today announced the launch of the Neo Drive 48V variants of its flagship SUVs — the Toyota Fortuner and Toyota Legender — reinforcing its commitment to delivering cutting-edge technology, refined performance, and sustainable mobility to Indian customers.

Marking a segment-first, the newly introduced Neo Drive 48V system delivers intelligent electric assist, enhancing both performance and fuel efficiency without compromising on power or capability.

Since its debut in 2009, the Toyota Fortuner has established itself as a benchmark in the premium SUV segment, renowned for its bold design, robust performance, and exceptional all-terrain capability.

Over the years, it has cultivated a strong and loyal customer base, appealing to both urban explorers and dedicated off-road enthusiasts. Complemented by its stylish and feature-rich counterpart, the Legender, the Fortuner range exemplifies Toyota’s core values of Quality, Durability, and Reliability (QDR), while reflecting the brand’s unwavering commitment to customer-focused innovation.

On the introduction of the Fortuner & Legender Neo Drive 48V variants, Mr. Varinder Wadhwa, Vice President, Sales-Service-Used Car Business, said, “As the SUV market in India grows steadily, customers are seeking advanced features and differentiated styling, both the Fortuner and Legender rise to meet these expectations with their bold design, powerful performance and comprehensive features, catering seamlessly to the needs of diverse users.

Now, the introduction of the new Neo Drive 48V grade in both models marks yet another milestone in our journey. As a segment first, it underscores our commitment to delivering ever-better cars that align with evolving customer lifestyles, while also reinforcing Toyota’s multi-pathway approach toward carbon neutrality. Through practical, future-ready mobility solutions, we strive to enhance customer value and contribute meaningfully to a more sustainable tomorrow.”

INTRODUCING NEW 48V NEO DRIVE TECHNOLOGY

Designed to enhance fuel efficiency and reduce emissions, the new Neo Drive variants of the Toyota Fortuner and Legender feature Toyota’s proven 2.8-litre, 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, now paired with an advanced 48-Volt system. This system comprises a belt-integrated starter generator and a lithium-ion battery, delivering hybrid-assist functionality for smoother low-end acceleration, quieter operation, and overall improved efficiency.

Incorporating regenerative braking—a key feature of hybrid electric systems—the 48V battery recharges during deceleration, converting otherwise lost energy into usable power. This also contributes to enhanced braking performance. Further augmenting efficiency, the Smart Idle Start-Stop function automatically switches off the engine when the vehicle is stationary, reducing both fuel consumption and tailpipe emissions.

Importantly, these enhancements do not compromise the Fortuner’s renowned payload capacity, durability, or exceptional off-road performance. The Multi-Terrain Select system continues to optimize throttle response, braking, and traction control across varied driving conditions, reinforcing the vehicle’s all-terrain prowess.

DISTINCTIVE AND COMMANDING DESIGN

While the Fortuner continues to embody a bold and rugged stance ideal for off-road exploration, the Legender offers a more premium and dynamic appeal with its dual-tone exterior, split LED headlamps, and sleek front fascia.

Both models feature refined interiors, including dual-tone leather upholstery, soft-touch surfaces, and ergonomically designed seating to ensure comfort over long journeys.

SAFETY AT THE CORE

Consistent with Toyota’s global focus on safety, both the Fortuner and Legender Neo Drive variants are equipped with a comprehensive suite of safety features.

These include:

  • Seven airbags

  • Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)

  • Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) with Brake Assist

  • Hill Assist Control

  • Traction Control System (TRC)

  • WIL (Whiplash Injury Lessening) Concept Seats

  • Child Restraint System (CRS)

  • Front row seatbelts with Pre-Tensioner and Force Limiter

  • Speed Auto Lock with Emergency Unlock

These features work together to deliver a safe and confident driving experience across all conditions.

ENHANCED OWNERSHIP EXPERIENCE

To ensure long-term peace of mind, the Neo Drive variants come with a range of flexible ownership and financial solutions. Customers can avail financing of up to 8 years with attractive EMI options, including Toyota Smart Balloon Finance, as well as pre-approved Value-Added Services such as extended warranty and Toyota Genuine Accessories.

Additional benefits include:

  • Five years of complimentary roadside assistance

  • Standard 3-year/100,000 km warranty, extendable up to 5 years/220,000 km

  • Toyota Smiles Plus customizable service packages for added convenience and care
