The Vietnamese EV manufacturer, VinFast, has presented an ambitious roadmap for its India entry, as this is not just another global car manufacturer entering a new market. VinFast has a clear strategy of aggressively localizing its EV launch and making the most of its factories, dealerships, and its charging network, as well as its partner network.
EV Launch Strategy: VF7 and VF6 First on the Cards
VinFast will utilize a top-down approach by launching the VF7 SUV first, price range of Rs. 30–35 lakh, followed by the VF6 SUV, price range of Rs. 18–24 lakh. This allows for the establishment of a premium brand before entering the volume game.
The VF7 will be sold against rivals such as the BYD.
The VF6 will need to compete with Hyundai, Tata, Mahindra, Maruti, Kia, Toyota, Skoda, Honda and Volkswagen.
Both models were shown at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025, showing that VinFast is ready for Indian roads.
Manufacturing and Production Plans in Tamil Nadu
VinFast's Indian dreams are supported by a new factory to be built near Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu, which should start operating in the 2025 festive period. The factory will also start with a capacity of 50,000 vehicles per year, with an ultimate capacity of 150,000 vehicles per year. This factory will be a platform for local sales and for future export based opportunities.
Dealerships, Bookings, and Charging Infrastructure
VinFast will start with six dealer partners in India, and plans to add seven more partners in one month. They will be targeting tier-1 and tier-2 cities, and having experiential stalls in airports and malls as well as roadshows across India. They will start bookings for the VF6 and VF7 models this month and will provide announcements for price and when the showrooms will be up and running.
On the infrastructure aspect, VinFast will use V-Green Solutions to place DC fast chargers (60kW to 300kW) and have partnered with Tata Power for it's charging rollout.
Service Network, Commercial Plans, and Future Offerings
The company will leverage third-party service centres to increase their after-sales service in order to quickly expand their service network and presence in smaller towns.
VinFast will also launch a fleet service dubbed GSM (Green and Smart Mobility), which targets India’s burgeoning ride-hailing market in the commercial EV space.
By 2027–28, VinFast will also enter the pre-owned car space, further reinforcing their commitment long-term to India.
VinFast's entry comes with the backdrop of a well-researched and sustainable growth story that aims at disrupting India’s EV market through solid infrastructure, premium EVs, together with a long-term vision.
